Irvine — Consumer protection attorney and Democratic Nominee Katie Porter (CA-45) released the following statement in response to the Mimi Walters’ special interest allies’ attack ad:
“Mimi Walters and her special interest allies are lying. I believe that border security is essential to America. ICE should be focused on its core public safety mission, not targeting families. The real issue here is the failure of Donald Trump’s leadership.
“No attack ad will hide the fact that Mimi Walters votes with Donald Trump 99 percent of the time. Mimi is a rubber stamp for Trump’s agenda. She sold out Orange County by voting for Donald Trump’s tax plan that gave middle-class OC families one of the highest tax increases in the nation, and Trump’s healthcare plan that would have gutted protections for pre-existing conditions and caused premiums to spike.
“I will always stand up to Trump and leaders of either party when they’re on the wrong side of Orange County. I will champion tax reform that cuts taxes on the middle class while asking corporations to finally pay their fair share, and fight to provide access to healthcare for all Americans including those with pre-existing conditions.”
Recent polling shows that with nearly three months to go, Democrats have a unique opportunity to flip California’s traditionally Republican 45th congressional district and that Katie Porter has a clear path to victory over unpopular incumbent Mimi Walters, initially trailing by only one point.
