ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Former classroom teacher, workers’ rights advocate and Democratic businessman Andy Thorburn was endorsed by the Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 9510 in his campaign for California’s 39th Congressional District seat.
Thorburn, who just yesterday was backed by the group built upon Senator Bernie Sanders’ 2016 Presidential campaign, Our Revolution’s Orange County Chapter, has amassed wide ranging support from organizations that represent working families, including the California Nurses Association, National Nurses United, United Steelworkers Los Angeles and Orange Counties, and the Painters and Allied Trades District Council 36.
In making public their endorsement, Communications Workers of America Local 9510 President Domonique Thomas released the following statement:
“The working men and women of the Communications Workers of America Local 9510 are proud to endorse a labor champion like Andy Thorburn for Congress. Andy has proven himself as a fighter for social and economic justice, helping to lead a strike that landed him in jail, but ultimately resulted in higher wages and better working conditions for classroom teachers and better schools for kids. We know in Washington, he’ll fight for Medicare for ALL and to build an economic that works for all of us, not just those at the top.”
Thorburn’s campaign has been picking up steam, securing endorsements from the California Nurses Association, National Nurses United, State Assembly Member and former California Democratic Party Statewide Secretary Reggie Jones-Sawyer, former State Senator and education leader Marty Block, Actor/Environmentalist Ed Begley Jr., former Los Angeles City Controller Rick Tuttle, as well as the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 36 and the United Steelworkers of Los Angeles and Orange Counties, among others.
As of the September 30, 2017 fundraising report, Thorburn’s campaign reported a whopping $2,142,000 for its war chest.
