When the field of Congressional candidates running in the 45th district began to emerge, I hoped there would be a candidate I could get excited about.
I was looking for someone who believed strongly in women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, enacting compassionate immigration reform, standing up to the NRA, fighting climate change, championing renewable energy, and bringing integrity and smart solutions to Washington.
For me that candidate is Brian Forde.
As a veteran of Orange County politics, I knew we could not beat Mimi Walters without changing the game. As the saying goes: “if you always do what you always did, you’ll always get what you always got.”
Brian’s background and experience make him unique in this field.
He’s a district 45 native whose passion for technology and public service took him from Model United Nations at Tustin High to UCLA to Nicaragua as a Peace Corps volunteer and ultimately to the White House where he served as a Senior Technology Advisor to President Obama.
Equally impressive is that Brian has an extraordinary network of friends and supporters. As a result, he is the top Democratic fundraiser in this race and will soon hit the $1 million mark.
His endorsements include Congressman Eric Swalwell (CA-15), Former Huntington Beach Mayor Debbie Cook, 314 — the Science and Technology PAC and even Jimmy Wales, the Founder of Wikipedia.
Brian’s a different kind of candidate, but that’s what we need.
Brian understands the challenges we face as a country. He’s part of a new generation of leaders who know that solutions can only be found when we make the interests of people — and our planet — a bigger part of the conversation. This race is about a future I may never see, and which can only be advanced if we allow new leadership to emerge.
Brian represents the best chance to challenge Mimi’s outdated thinking and replace her with a representative who is not afraid to fight for progressive values and offers us a bright, new vision for our democracy.
Thanks for letting me share my thoughts.
