LAGUNA BEACH, CA – After generating a burst of national political news just last Friday with the release of his powerful new video ad, “Represent Us, Not Russia,” today technology and business entrepreneur and leading Democratic candidate in California’s 48th Congressional District, Harley Rouda’s campaign, announced that it had topped a considerable $1.2 million raised for the contest. Collecting thousands and thousands of donors and supporters, he maintains a war chest of over $830,000 cash-on-hand.
Upon making public the campaign’s latest fundraising totals for the December 31, 2017 deadline, Rouda’s campaign manager Michael McLaughlin released the following statement:
“Harley Rouda is running for Congress to move Orange County forward. These latest robust figures reflect the fact that he has the resources to communicate this message widely and across the 48th District. It’s also why working families like nurses, steelworkers, electricians, painters, pipe fitters, operating engineers along with educators, small business owners, neighborhood leaders, grassroots activists, elected officials and thousands more are supporting his campaign. They know that Harley Rouda is clearly the best candidate to stop Dana Rohrabacher and Donald Trump’s backwards agenda and to move Orange County, and America, forward.”
Rouda has earned the endorsement of several organizations that represent working families, including the California Nurses Association (CNA), the United Steelworkers Los Angeles/Orange County Legislative Education Committee, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 441, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 36, and United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry (UA) Local 582 and the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 12.
Key community leaders that have endorsed Rouda’s campaign include: Orange County Democratic Party Chair Frank Barbaro (Ret.), Democratic Foundation Chair Dan Jacobson*, Congressman Pete McCloskey (Ret.), Laguna Beach Mayor Toni Iseman, Costa Mesa Mayor (Ret.) and City Council Member Katrina Foley, Irvine Mayor Sukhee Kang (Ret.), California State Senator Henry Stern, California Attorney General Bill Lockyer (Ret.), Ocean View School District Board of Trustees President Gina Clayton-Tarvin, along with a myriad of others.
Rouda’s latest digital ad comes on the heels of his other recent video, “Trust,” which highlighted the high-powered and coveted endorsement he received from the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United.
Since the inception of Rouda’s campaign, he’s called out incumbent Congressman Dana Rohrabacher for his allegiances to Russia over America’s and Orange County’s interests.
Significantly, a recent poll conducted by Tulchin Research and which was reported on by POLITICO in “Rouda Internal Shows Tight CA-48 Race,” showed that Congressman Dana Rohrabacher is in serious trouble in his re-election bid, with the incumbent and Rouda in a statistical tie – with Rohrabacher leading 48% to 44%. The survey also showed Rouda taking a 50% to 46% lead over Rohrabacher after messaging. The full poll memo can be viewed here.
