Eric Bauman’s election to chair of the California Democratic Party (CDP) was upheld this weekend after an exhaustive review of votes, challenges to multiple ballots cast for Bauman and his principal opponent Kimberly Ellis, and in-depth research into contested ballots to make sure those who cast them were eligible and to verify which candidate they voted for kin an election held more than two months ago. The review showed no change in the final result.
Thought it all, Bauman has let the process play out with little commentary. He continues to reach out to those who didn’t vote for him to fight the real fights ahead. He has done so with grace, class and integrity. Eric Bauman is as progressive as they come. He’s worked the trenches. He knows how to lead. He is an example of a gracious winner who understands how to bring people together.
TheLiberalOC encourages Kimberly Ellis to stop the needless challenge to the election in which every ballot was scrutinized to death. You are only giving fodder to the Republicans in the state and across the nation. That seat at the table is yours to claim, but for many you have forfeited your opportunity to sit there. A continued challenge just costs the party and donors money that should be spent elsewhere.
California Democrats do not need to be redefined; we lead the nation in progressive policy. We’ll expand our strength under Bauman’s leadership.
