Orange, CA – Today, the Loretta Sanchez for U.S. Senate campaign announced the endorsement of Congressman Luis Gutierrez (IL-04) for Loretta Sanchez’s bid to replace retiring Senator Barbara Boxer in the United States Senate, citing her legislative experience, political acumen, and institutional knowledge.

Congressman Luis V. Gutierrez represents the Fourth Congressional District in Chicago. Rep. Gutierrez is a nationally recognized figure for his work on Latino and immigrant issues, and he has been at the center of every major legislative debate on immigration reform and immigration issues for more than a dozen years. He is well-known for the instrumental role he played in advocating for executive action by President Obama to provide deportation relief to certain long-term undocumented immigrants and their families.

“The United States Senate is in dire need of a champion for immigration reform within it’s ranks – Loretta Sanchez is that champion,” said Rep. Luis Gutierrez. “I have had the pleasure and privilege to work with her in the House of Representatives for the last twenty years, and in all that time, she has stood by my side as a tireless advocate for the millions of undocumented Americans who desperately want to come out of the dark,” he continued. “Loretta Sanchez has the political acumen, the institutional knowledge, the legislative expertise, and most importantly, the passion that is needed in a U.S. Senator. I encourage all those who support the cause of comprehensive immigration reform to vote to send Loretta Sanchez to the U.S. Senate.”

“I am incredibly honored to have the endorsement of my good friend and colleague, Rep. Luis Gutierrez,” said Rep. Loretta Sanchez. “Passing comprehensive immigration reform is the moral imperative of our time. Luis and I fought for years for the DREAM Act which would provide millions of undocumented young people who grew up in the United States with the opportunity to achieve the American Dream,” she continued. “The DREAM Act passed in the House but failed in the Senate in 2010. As U.S. Senator, my number one priority will be to fight to get comprehensive immigration reform passed in the U.S. Senate.”

Rep. Luis Gutierrez joins 17 other members of the U.S. House of Representatives who have endorsed Loretta Sanchez for U.S. Senate, more than any other candidate running for the seat. The list includes:
