The City of Irvine will hold its official Veteran’s Day ceremony Tuesday — one at Bill Barber Park beginning at 11AM. Another was held Sunday night at a citizen-driven memorial at Northwood Park (which locals call “Castle Park”). The details can be found here.
While the election results are not yet final, it’s expected the Irvine Republican ticket will be out in force for these ceremonies and it’s going to be fun to watch. Unless the Chinese-Americans Irvine Planning Commissioner Anthony Kuo show up in force, we expect Irvine Mayor Steven Choi and the Irvine Republican council candidates to pay maximum respect to Irvine’s military veterans. But at some point, the Veteran’s should demand a firm answer from Choi, Kuo and the rest of the city council if games are to be played with the Veteran’s Cemetery and Memorial.
I’m certain quiet assurances will be made; no one wants a scene after all. And if the Irvine Chinese-American community who might have been swayed about killing off the project in the planning process decides to show up, it’s be fun watching Republicans do gymnastics between the Hatfield’s and McCoy’s.
We urge Veteran’s to demand a firm answer from Choi, Jeff Lalloway, Lynn Schott, and Christina Shea on the Veteran’s Cemetery and Memorial. And if you see Emile Haddad there, ask him about it. And then demand to know what Anthony Kuo meant in those stories assuring the Chinese Americans or Chinese Immigrants who are upset to recently learn about plans for the Cemetery? Ask Choi what he meant by “where were you” when opposition was needed to the project. If you’re a Veteran and some of these Chinese home buys are there at the ceremony, partner up with them and approach Choi to ask “what’s it going to be?”
If you’re planning to go Tuesday, here’s the scoop:
Veterans Day Ceremony
On Tuesday, November 11, the City of Irvine will host its annual Veterans Day Ceremony from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park, 4 Civic Center Plaza, Irvine.
Field of Flags at Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park event
In addition to saluting our nation’s military at the 11 a.m. event November 11, community members can pre-order dedication flags to honor a current or past service member through the Irvine Chamber Education Foundation Field of Flags fundraiser. Flags purchased will be displayed in a Field of Flags with the service member’s photo and dedication card at the Veterans Day Ceremony. Proceeds raised from the purchase of flags will benefit the Lt. Col. Thomas Wall Scholarship fund and other education scholarships awarded to service men and women through the Education Foundation. For additional event information or to participate in the Field of Flags fundraiser, visit the Chamber’s special page: irvinechamber.com/advocacy/field-of-flags/
I’m still trying to wrap my head around this. Don’t Republicans always try to position themselves as the “All American Super Patriotic We Always Support the Troops Party”? And now, the Irvine GOP Council Members are threatening to blow up a veterans’ cemetery? Crazy.
Dan the “Spin Man” has run out of material to rationalize the loss of his Agranista BFF’s and is now scraping the bottom of the barrell looking for dirt to report. He knows full well that the Cemetery is a done deal and the ball in now in the court of the State of California to study, design and build it. I wouldn’t worry too much about the Asian Community’s concern for feng shui, because with people standing in line to get homes in Irvine, most will overcome their cultural concerns.
Sorry Dan, you have to do better than this. Why don’t you do a follow up story to that of the O.C. Weekly, using the Agran housekeeper incident if you are so short on material. You could focus on who engineered the Obstruction of Justice (Larry Agran), were any laws broken (Yes) and who should be held accountable for that sorry abuse of power. Just saying……
like I said Pat, if we’re going to use examples of elected officials using their positions to interfere with criminal investigations. then Shea’s interference with her daughter’s meth arrest is fair game.
Do you want to go there?
Don’t need to go there Dan. I was working and knew the Investigator who handled the daughters case well. While chirstina wasn’t happy about the arrest, she reacted as a mother would, but there was never any inteference by her or anyone else in the case.
That is exactly the opposite of what Larry Agran did. He clearly used his power to influenced the Police Department to become complicit in mishandling a criminal case that should have gone to the District Attorney and then to court. Instead it was swept under the carpet and the Police Report hidden in the Internal Affairs Files where it could not be seen by the media or public. Big difference in the two cases, so lets go there if you dare.
Pat, the voicemails Dave Christensen played told a completely different story as did editorials about it from the LA Times. But we’re going there
Dan, go wherever you want, I will stick with the current cancer on our City, Larry Agran.
