TheLiberalOC was awarded the Orange County Press Club’s “Best News/Political Blog” award for 2012 at the organization’s awards gala in Tustin. The award is based on a series of stories written by Chris Prevatt regarding anti-Semitic comments made by Santa Ana Mayor Pro Tem Claudia Alvarez against developer Irv Chase last summer during the height of the debate on PBID. Alvarez’s initial refusal to apologize followed by tepid apologies led to comdemnation of her comments by Jewish and Latino community groups.
Prevatt was recognized for his story last year, It’s a Question of Ethics which garnered the award for 2012 Best News/Political Blog and story. His story was on the ethics, rather lack of ethics, displayed by Santa Ana Mayor Pro Tem Claudia Alvarez when she cast the deciding vote regarding her own discipline related to her divisive and anti-Semitic comments made while chairing a meeting of the City Council on August 24, 2011.
“I’m honored to have played a role in LiberalOC being named Best News/Political Blog for 2012,” said Chris Prevatt. It takes a team effort to make this Political News Blog work. I appreciate the hard work of all of our contributors which supports our efforts to bring real Liberal Media Bias to Orange County. I also want to thank Orange County elected officials, in particular Santa Ana Councilwoman Claudia Alvarez, for delivering us such compelling material to write about.”
This is the second time in three years this blog has been honored by the Orange County Press Club. This blog was named “Best Liberal Blog” by Orange Coast Magazine in 2008. We’re appreciative of the judges from the OC Press Club who reviewed and considered our work and 300 submissions total in every category.
In a small way, we’re grateful to Mayor Pro Tem Alvarez from the drama last summer and the current drama surrounding her attempts to subvert Measure D to stay in office. Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction, and you simply can’t make up some of the stories we’ve written about her.
Congratulations Chris and Dan. Your blog sets the standard of quality for all others here in the real OC.
Good story and congratulations. I hope that my favorite OC political blog from last year, Geoff West’s work in A Bubbling Cauldron on the Righeimer regime in Costa Mesa (as well as this year’s work on the charter proposal), at least got an honorable mention.
So, does this mean all the stuff Fox News says about the liberal media is really true?!? Congratulations you guys–and keep up the great work!
Actually I think it is a bunch of B.S.!
To think that was the story that topped the list of most important?
I am sure that Chris wrote a thorough piece about Alvarez’ slips of the tongue. Did any liberal O.C. people do anything to prove any real anti-semitism? or did they just do more to create frustration over “liberal-media” Stereotypes. They won the press award, but did they win over the other liberals? Was Alvarez the only conspiratorial paranoid? Or just the conspiratorial paranoid with lack of liberal media power backing her up? This award proved it all.
Are you taking some sort of backhanded swing at us? I’m not sure I really understand where you’re trying to go here.
Claudia Alvarez hardly just made a slip of the tongue. She is a Deputy DA. Her words are carefully selected and targeted. she doesn’t slip. She says what she means and means what she says.
The “Liberal Media” received an award for being the most “Liberal”. I bet the conservative media got their award for fighting muslims or some nonsense like that.
The “Liberal Media” received their award for maintaining the political status quo. Cheers.
There was no award for conservative or liberal media. There was an award for Best News/Political blog, which we won. The article highlighted by the judges was the one about Claudia Alvarez, but there were numerous articles that were considered in the process. The nominees had to submit multiple sample articles for consideration.
Keep pounding that pendeja!
You realize that can be taken several ways.
AAAAGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!
Congratulations! The Santa Ana coverage was super and now you should cover the ever developing County of Orange scandal the same way. This one appears to go all the way to the top implicating the CEO himself and members of the board of supervisors in a massive cover up. The more questions being asked, the more they are running for cover. When will the US Attorney get involved? RICO? Watch for a board of supervisors meeting agenda item very soon to suddenly retain outside counsel. For what? How much? Go get ’em!
Congratulations Dan & Chris for earning and receiving this recognition!
Paco Barragán
I’m sure this pissed the she-beast off something fierce. I very much appreciate you Guy’s coverage of things happening in santa ana and could care less that you guys don’t live here like some people do. congrats prevatt.
Thanks Jose. The name of the Blog is the TheLiberalOC and last time I checked, Santa Ana was in OC. I’ve never understood why we’re not allowed to write about Santa Ana because we don’t live there.
Congrats, Dan and Chris! Well done and well deserved!
It’s because you only find negative stories to write about for Santa Ana. You have “liberal” fans and “conservative” fans that love your negative Santa Ana stories!
When there is a positive political story from Santa Ana we do try to cover it. Unfortunately, with all of the negative political crap the Santa Ana City Council shovels around, the flowers get lost in the weeds.
