Sign a Petition to Say You’ll Sign THE Petition to Recall Amante at Tustin Chili Cookoff

Recall Amante Sign in Old Town Tustin

With the latest petition to recall Tustin Mayor Jerry Amante rejected yet again by the Tustin city clerk (this time on grounds that a one inch margin was lacking on the petition), one can surmise that the staff at the city is working to do everything they can to delay the inevitable.  By denying the last petition and counting to 10, the city of Tustin has denied the Tustin Recall The Mayor group the ability to use the famous Tustin Chili Cookoff to collect signatures.

But the group may collect signatures anyway.

If you’re a Tustin resident who wants Amante out, you will be able to sign on as a supporter and commit that you will sign the petition to recall the mayor when the city clerk and city attorney both run out of excuses to deny the petition.  Yes, you’ll wind up signing twice but consider it you sending a message to Mayor Amante you’re willing to go to the mattresses over his delay tactics.

The group is also seeking volunteers and funds to do this very grassroots efforts.  They will also have information for residents to see that lays out the case for the recall.

Here’s a message from the group.

  1. I’ll sign 10 damned petitions if it means getting this thing rolling. While i still think the best course of action is to simply let him term out, at least this group is vocal about their issues with Boss Tweed Amante. Now, if I could just get one of those signs, we’d have one going both ways on Main St.

  2. It is a shame and a blot on Tustin that the recall petition keep getting rejected by the city clerk. It has become obvious that his majesty, King Amante is calling the shots. The sooner we get rid of him, the sooner we can get on with mending the fences between the district and the council.

  3. The fastest way to avoid the trial between the City and TUSD is to recall Amante and replace him with someone who’ll vote with Gavello and Gomez. That has to be a motivator for the TUSD supporters.

  4. Dan,

I heard that the City relegated your booth to a back alley with little foot traffic at the Chili Cook-off – true?

    • I have no idea; I spent the weekend working on the boat. I’m waiting for a report. But it would not surprise me that the city did this.

I left Lisa Woolery, the city’s information officer, a few messages back on May 25; it’s June 6 and no callbacks. If you do PR and do not engage the media when they call, you’re not doing the job you are paid to do
