CAIR Update on ‘HATE COMES TO ORANGE COUNTY’ Video

As of yesterday, the CAIR-LA video received close to 700,000 views. More than 2,000 positive comments were sent to CAIR-LA in the past five days by Americans of all faiths and ethnicities expressing solidarity with the American Muslim community and opposition to the hateful protest. The video prompted widespread grassroots interfaith and political activism to challenge Islamophobia.

In what appears to be an attempt to stifle the legitimate public debate on Islamophobia that has arisen following the video’s exposure of right-wing hate in Orange County, the owner of the video clips showing rally speakers contacted YouTube and wrongfully claimed ‘copyright infringement.’ As part of its general policy, Youtube disabled the video link pending further clarification. Use of these clips is a permitted fair use, and we are confident this issue will be resolved quickly and the video will soon be back on YouTube again.

  1. Again, I hope people wonder why the majority of people were at the rally – not just the ones you saw in the video. There were several hundred who showed up to the rally and the splinter group was 90-100 people.

    The rally was promoted to be a peaceful protest against the radical ideology of the two keynote speakers.

    This anti-Muslim bigots showed up and formed a splinter group from the main rally who you saw in the video.

    There is no excuse or justification for the chants of go home or to yell at kids like the splinter group did.

    I denouce the messge of their chants – even if I support their right to protest outside the event.

    I don’t agree with the Pauly’s views either.

    I also condemn the keynote speaker’s ideology and I hope you do to.

  2. Is it “fair use” for CAIR to steal this copyrighted video footage for fundraising?

    Is it “fair use” for the Daily Show to show this stolen copyrighted video footage for commercial gain purposes?
