La Habra teachers return to classrooms today, Tuesday, December 14

Parties will bargain at 3:30 p.m. based on settlement framework crafted last night

LA HABRA – Operating in good faith that both sides will keep their bargaining commitments, the La Habra Education Association has notified La Habra City School District Superintendent Susan Belenardo that the city’s teachers will return to their classrooms today, Tuesday, December 14, 2010.

After a lengthy series of back and forth discussions Monday evening lasting until almost midnight, LHEA received a framework for a settlement from the California School Services Administration and California Teachers Association financial analysts that the union believes could lead to a settlement today. Bargaining between the district and the union will resume Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in an effort to reach an agreement.

“We promised teachers and the community that we would not keep teachers out of their classrooms any longer than was necessary,” said LHEA President Danette Brown. “We are honoring our word in the good faith that the district will reciprocate and reach a contract settlement with us today, based on the framework crafted last night.”
