Mayor Sukhee Kang, councilman Larry Agran and new council member Jeff Lalloway will take the oath of office today at Irvine City Hall for the 2011-2012 term. There’sa reception at 5PM at Irvine City Hall followed by the swearing in ceremony at 6PM.Â
The political make up of the council hasn’t changed. It’s still a 3-2 progressive council majority so it will be interesting to see how Jeff Lalloway interacts with the existing members of the city council. But his election marks the first time the Lincoln Club has had representation on the city council in years.
Dan, it will be interesting indeed to see just how Mr. Lalloway reacts to the pressure of being in the minority. While I have been no big fan of Lalloway due to his campaign shenanigans, I am giving him a clean slate as of today. I will base my future comments based strictly on the actions he takes or doesn’t take as a Council Member. The ball is in your court Jeff and we optimistically await your actions.
Lalloway has a chance to come out of the shoot in true rodeo style with his following through on a campaign promise to decline certain Council perks. If Jeff moves toward bringing back a sense of volunteerism to local elected government, he gets an A+ mark in the conservative merit book. His Commission appointments could send another strong message as to his sincerity. Putting self-serving, political blow hard Adam Probolsky back on a Commission will be a strong negative. Strictly from a personal standpoint, I would like to see conservatives like, Chris Gonzales and Lynn Schott invited to be part of Lalloway’s Team. That could start to build a strong base for the 2012 elections.
As you stated Dan, it will be an interesting scenario to watch play out.
I spoke with Lalloway briefly and he gave me grief over our photos of him used here. But I did sincerely wish him well and I’m not ashamed to say his wife is a very nice and pleasant person. And their daughters are both as cute as buttons. And very well behaved. His daughters were very excited about the swearing in ceremony and why shouldn’t they be?! I should have brought my camera for new photos of the guy. I am hopeful that our shared desire to help Irvine’s schools can be something we can all unite around. We’ll see.
