Voices From Street Corners (Vol 7)

October 17, 2010 2

It was a bit of a cold and damp week in South County. As always, though, there was a lot going on. As I was about town, I got a chance to talk to a few of the regulars on Street Corners. The old Veteran was at his old station continuing to ask for help. When I went up to talk to him and asked him how things were, his only comment to me was, “the man up there will take care of things…”. I wanted to again ask whether he had gone up to the One Stop Center. I also told him about a Security Job Opportunity that I saw that he could potentially qualify for.

Obama Weekly Address: GOP Rewarding Corporations that Create Jobs Overseas

October 16, 2010 10

In this week’s address, President Obama laid out a policy agenda that would strengthen our economy and create jobs right here in America by offering tax incentives to businesses that hire new employees, making the research and experimentation tax credit permanent and providing a tax cut for clean energy manufacturing. The President also wants to close tax loopholes worth billions of dollars that encourage companies to invest in overseas, while Republicans in the House have voted 11 times in just the last four years to keep those loopholes open.

Nearly 1,000 people showed up to see Bill Clinton and Loretta Sanchez this afternoon at the Old Courthouse in downtown Santa Ana. Yes, it was important that right-thinking people be there in large numbers. Yes, it was important that self-respecting Democrats be there in large numbers. No question.

Over the past several days it seems that every elected democrat is claiming that they, along with Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47), are inviting people to attend a rally in Santa Ana. In some cases, they are making it look like they are hosting, or co-hosting, the event. The Democratic Party of Orange County (DPOC) sent out an email blast, announcing the rally, but they had the intellectual honesty not to claim it was their event.

Yesterday, Norberto Santana, Jr. of the Voice of Orange County wrote a story Controversy Surrounds a Now-Silent Little Saigon Radio Show that reported on a radio show on Vietnamese language radio that has gone slient because of a mysterious requirement allegedly imposed on all program producers preventing criticism of individuals or public officials. If I didn’t know better, I would think we were somewhere in communist Vietnam., or maybey just the cahmbers of the Santa Ana City Council (snark). Santana reports:

Citizen’s group sues City of Santa Ana over One Broadway Plaza changes

October 14, 2010 2

A Coalition for Accountable Government Ethics (CAGE) filed suit against the City of Santa Ana, charging that the City acted in violation of law by amending the voter-approved initiative/ordinance without submitting the question to a vote of the public. Simply put, CAGE is claiming that the City Council did not have the authority to amend the One Broadway Plaza Development Agreement, because the agreement was part of the voter approved initiative, Measure A.
