Doug Arseneault Named OCYD Executive Director

Santa Ana, CA – 9/13/10 – Orange County Young Democrats today hired Doug Arseneault to serve as OCYD’s first Executive Director.

Arseneault  will be responsible for implementing  OCYD’s 2010 Election plan, which includes working directly with local campaigns to coordinate voter outreach  efforts,  coordinating campus organizing plans, recruiting and retaining volunteers, and working with allied coalitions in Orange County.
“I am gratefu l for the opportunity offered by the OCYD Executive Board to serve my fellow young Democrats at campaigns, colleges, high schools and businesses across Orange County,” said Doug Arsenault.  “OCYD will show on November 2nd that when we vote, Dems win.”

“Bringing on a staffer has always been a long term goal of ours.”  said Nick Anas, Chair of OCYD. “We are making history by being the only local chapter in the state to have paid staff. Doug has demonstrated a great ability to organize. I am confident in his abilities to execute our plans for this election cycle and beyond.”

Arseneault began his political career as a high school intern at the Maryland headquarters of the Kerry/Edwards campaign during the 2004 Presidential Election. While student body president at Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland, he organized the first candidates forum on campus connecting elected officials and their campaigns with first-time voters during the 2006 campaign cycle.  After moving to Orange County in 2007, he served as  Party Liaison, Community Organizer, and Political Director for Chapman Young Democrats. He currently serves as the  California Young Democrats Region 6 Director.

The Orange County Young Democrats (OCYD) is the official voice for young people in the Democratic Party in Orange County. OCYD is comprised of young workers, young families, college and high school students, ages 14 – 35, who are dedicated to the Democratic values that make America strong and provide opportunity for all. OCYD is committed to establishing a bloc of young voters who will elect Democrats for an entire generation. Using proven peer-to-peer campaign methods, young democrats have made significant differences in races throughout the county.
