OC Press Club Names TheLiberalOC.com as Best Political Blog

NEWPORT BEACH, CA – TheLiberalOC.com, Orange County California’s oldest liberal political blog, was named Best Political Blog at the 2010 Orange County Press Club’s annual awards gala. Established in 2006 by former Garden Grove Journal reporter Mike Lawson, TheLiberalOC has distinguished itself as the premier liberal political blog in Orange County. With a team of 8 volunteer writers, TheLiberalOC delivers political news and opinion from a liberal perspective to Orange County, CA.

“We are honored and humbled by this award and pleased that we have had the opportunity to deliver a platform for the liberal perspective in a media market where ‘liberal’ has historically been considered a dirty word,” said Publisher Chris Prevatt.

Chris Prevatt, Publisher TheLiberalOC

“We strive for accuracy, and integrity in our reporting and commentary. In doing so, we have grown in readership and credibility. While we occasionally get a good scoop, we know that we will never have the resources to replace the need for paid political reporting by the mainstream media, Prevatt continued. Prevatt’s post titled “The Imperial Chairmanship of John Moorlach” A.K.A. “John Moorlach is a lying sack of Crap” took second place for Best Opinion piece.

“The best we can hope for is that we can draw enough attention to motivate the full time professionals to dig deeper and cover stories they may have missed.”

Managing Editor Dan Chmielewski points out that “TheLiberalOC is more interested in getting the story right than getting it first. Sometimes that means we sit on a story until we have all the facts lined up.  And if we get something wrong, we will admit and correct the mistake.”

TheLiberalOC is operated by Thinking Liberally Media, Inc.  In 2008, Orange Coast Magazine named The Liberal OC Orange County’s Best Liberal blog.

  1. Congrats, guys! Don’t agree with your politics much, but appreciate your passion and delivery of your views. I suspect there was much more “liberal drinking” going on this time around. 🙂

  2. Way to go Chris, Dan, Claudio, and the rest of the team. Great job reporting on issues that matter to OC.
