Galloway not involved with deceptive slate mailer

In the latest 4th District Supervisor race news, La Habra Councilwoman Rose Espinoza raised concern Tuesday over a slate mailer that was sent out to registered Democrats claiming that Lorri Galloway is the Official OC Democrat Party endorsed candidate for Fourth District Supervisor. Since no such endorsement was made, the mailer is, to say the least, deceptive. The mailer looks like it is an official communication from the California Democratic Party.

Well, the first clue that something is wrong with this is the way they named the party. It is the Democratic Party of Orange County, and no Democratic Party candidate would list themselves as endorsed by the “Democrat Party.”

The mailer indicates with an * candidates who have paid to be on the slate. Lorri Galloway’s name does not have the * next to it.

We contacted Lorri for comment on the mailer and this is what she told us:

“My campaign did not buy on to this slate nor did it buy into any slate – because of just this reason. One really doesn’t ever know what is official and what is not. Apparently, an IE paid for this on my behalf. If you look at the slate piece, my name does not have a star after the name. The star indicates that the candidate purchased the place on the slate.

Also, the words say “Lorri Galloway, Official endorsed candidate of the OC Democrat Party. The official name of the party is DPOC Democratic Party of Orange County. These practices are unethical, at best.”

In general, slate mailers are not much more than an indication of who had the money on hand to buy onto the slate at the time the opportunity became available. We are trying to see if we can find out how the Slate Mailer Organization decided to list Galloway the way they did. If we find out, we’ll let you know.

I will shout out a bit of a warning, there are some Republicans running for County offices that bought their way on to the slate. they include Webster Guillory for County Asssessor, and Shari Freidenrich for Treasurer-Tax Collector. Neither the Democratic Party of Orange County or the California Democratic Party endorse Republicans.

  1. Of course people should believe she knew nothing about it, even though it showed up on a campaign report a couple of months ago and has been talked about for a while.
