Vietnamese Government Denies Rep. Loretta Sanchez Visa

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47), Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on Vietnam, today announced that her visa application was ignored by Vietnam’s government. Rep. Sanchez, who just concluded a Congressional Delegation visit throughout critical parts of Southeast Asia, had hoped to meet with Vietnamese human rights activists and other officials during her trip.  Rep. Sanchez has been blocked from visiting the Communist country multiple times during her time in Congress.

U.S. and Russia Sign Arms Reduction Treaty

Last week, President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a historic treaty to reduce nuclear arms between the two superpowers. Fringe commentators like Jack Kelly are already digging at his heels making the ludicrous claim that, “before he [Obama] drives us into bankruptcy, he might get us all killed.” However, some more reasonable Republicans have endorsed the measure.

Planned Parenthood named one of Orange County’s Most Trusted Brands

Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties (PPOSBC) was named one of the top 10 most trustworthy brands in Orange County, according to a survey conducted by OC METRO and The Values Institute at DGWB, a think tank. PPOSBC joined the likes of Disneyland, Trader Joe’s, Chapman University, and In-N-Out Burger in the survey of residents released this month.

At the April 5, 2010 meeting of the Santa Ana City Council, Mayor Miguel Pulido missed the meetingand the gavel fell to Mayor Pro Tem Claudia Alvarez. Not only did Alvarez fail to folllow the Brown Act as it relates to public testimony, she also applied her rules arbitrarily on some speakers and not others.

Ballot Measure to Repeal Prop 8 Fails to Get Enough Signatures

The effort to place an initiative on the November 2010 ballot to repeal Proposition 8 and restore equal marriage rights for same-sex couples, announced today that the proponents did not gather the 694,354 signatures necessary to place the proposed initiative on the ballot.  The group vowed to work toward the repeal of Prop 8 at the next general election in November 2012.
