While commenting at the April 5, 2010 City Council meeting on the celebration of the bicentennial of Mexican Independence in Santa Ana, City Councilwoman Claudia Alvarez remarked that the tragedy that befell our nation on September 11, 2001 was a “horrible Accident.”
There had been a great deal of controversy over the original proposal by the City to celebrate Mexican Independence Day on September 11, 2010. The actual anniversary is September 16th. Because of the controversy the original recommendation from the committee chaired by Alvarez, to celebrate on Septemmber 11th, was changed to September 18th.

Maybe the difference between Incident and Accident got lost in translation. Ms. Alvarez, an ACCIDENT is an undesirable or unfortunate happening that occurs unintentionally and usually results in harm, injury, damage, or loss. The horrible tragedy caused by the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 were INCIDENTS, individual occurrences or events, of national significance.
Dumb. Truly freakin’ stupid.
Accident? OMG. This woman is a complete moron.
Another moron in this mess, on even a larger scale, is Santa Ana’s City Manager Dave Ream.
It was his idiotic decision to stage the 200 year celebration of Mexico’s Independence on Sept. 11th (9-11).
And BTW Claudia – “9-11” was not an “accident” – it was not an “incident” – it was not simply a “tragedy” – it was a terrorist attack by murdering radicalized Islamic extremists on the freedom loving people of the United States of America.
For our reading comprehension-challenged “admin” poster at OJ and NewSantaAna blog who defended Claudia Alvarez’s comment that 9/11 was an accident citing the definition of accident in Spanish as a “plane crash,” allow me to call you a moron as well.
“Accidente Aereo” is not what happened on 9/11; 9/11 was not an accidential plane crash. 9/11 was a deliberate attack on Americans using hijacked jetliners as missles.
So now we’re going to attribute Ms. Alvarez’s mistatements of 9/11 to something “lost in translation.” To quote Art Pedroza, “how lame.”
Yes Admin. I will say this again. Ms. Alvarez should apologize for characterizing 9/11 as an “accident.” I knew two people who were killed inside the Twin Towers and I don’t think they’d use the word “accidente aereo” to describe it. If Ms. Alvarez won’t apologize for her remarks, I stand by the “she’s a complete moron” statement. It reminds me of Rudy Guiliani suggesting that “no domestic terrorism happened in the US under George W. Bush.” Mr. 9/11 forgout about 9/11.
And while we’re at it, the Melissa Fox law school arguement is beyond bizzare; Art Pedroza has gone as far as to call my lawyer, Todd Gallinger, a terrorist and he went a George Washington University which is ranked 12th by the same publication “admin” cites. And LawSchool100.com lists Tulane at 34th and Loyola at 63rd while listing George Washgington at 23rd. Nice try Admin. And you’re a moron too.
Having to defend your attorney Dan……Never a good space to be in.
It’s a non-sequiter to bring Fox into it in the first place Ken. I simply want to point out that Art, who likes to tell people his SAT scores and GPA, that my attny went to a BETTER law school than Ms, Alvarez in just about every list.
And Ken, we don’t post TV listings here either.
The point is Dan that Spanish and English are two very different languages. English is Germanic. Spanish is primarily Latin but it also has a fair amout of Arabic.
Alvarez is no moron. She went to a better law school than Fox and she is far more accomplished, as a Deputy D.A. and as Mayor Pro Tem in Santa Ana.
She misspoke. Get over it. She does not owe you anything other than a swift kick in the ass.
BTW, how does Fox feel about you calling her Democratic colleague a moron?
Art —
Depending on the list (and there are several), Tulane ranks higher than Loyola in terms of law school prestige. But regardless of what list you throw out, Todd Gallinger, my lawyer, went to a law school considerably higher ranking than either Melissa’s or Claudia’s (whom I believe you often referred to as “Clownia”).
I never said she owed me anything; she owes me nothing. But your lame defense of her inability to distinguish an accident from an act of terrorism is as funny as your claim that linking a madisonalexanderpublicrelations.com a site with graphic images of ‘roids was “educational” in nature and not meant as an attempt to slander my business reputation. Was the NAMBLA.org redriect educational as well Art? And if so, who are you hoping to educate?
This case has nothing to do with Melissa Fox who would not represent Santa Ana in the event she’s elected to the asembly. Ask yourself if Ms. Alvarez or Ms. Ingelisas seeks to be associated with someone who promoted NAMBLA and gay porn on websites he once owned, or someone who advocates for more massage parlors in Santa Ana. Happy endings for you Art?
Sorry Dan – I also have a criticism of your description of Claudia Alvarez as a “moron.” You left out an important adverb – she is a “f**king” moron.
One of the definitions for moron is: a person who is notably stupid or lacking in good judgment.
It could be argued that if the comments made by Ms. Alvarez were a mistake due to a lack in good judgement regarding to proper use of the word accident.
Hence, there is a reasonable connection between her making the statement, and that statement being moronic.
One could also conclude, that chairing a meeting of a government agency and violating the Brown Act several times in that process was either stupid, or lacking in good judgement.
From what I can tell the case for Claudia Alvarez being a moron is strong. Don’t know if the f**king part applies though.
I find it hilarious that the most viscious critic of Claudia is now her defender.
Junior,
Sure, I have criticized her, but she is no moron.
BTW aren’t you the guy who compared gay marriage to sex with horses? You called gays “Centaurs,” remember?
There goes Art again, changing the subject rather than debating Junior on the issue at hand. OK we will play that game. This game also seems to have the magical side effect of getting Art to not comment on that post anymore. So lets try it.
Art, WHY DID YOU BUY http://WWW.CLAUDIOGALLEGOS.COM, BRAG THAT YOU “OWN MY ASS†AND LINK IT TO POSTS TO TRY AND DAMAGE MY REPUTATION WHEN I HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TRANSACTION AND SALE OF http://WWW.ARTPEDROZA.COM? Please advise.
Art,
You pose an interesting defense of Ms. Alvarez. You compare her to another attorney running for elected office, try to assess the quality of education by comparing law schools attended, and most absurdly, attempt to claim she was confusing an airplane accident with the events of September 11, 2001.
In her comment, Ms. Alvarez did not say plane accident, she said accident. Planes crashing because of mechanical or human error, that is an accident. Flying planes into buildings is no accident. It is a tragedy, a terrorist attack, premeditated murder.
If as a prosecuter assigned to prosecute a person on the charge of murder, would Ms. Alvarez, because language confusion, call the murders’s actions an accident. I think not.
While I am sure she misspoke, it was still a major gaffe of Joe Biden proportions. If it were not for the fact that her gaffe compared the tragedy of 9/11/2001 to a plane accident, it would be funny.
Clowni, er, Claudia is nice to me. I don’t think she’s an Imbécil.
