Soraya Sarhaddi Nelson, former Capitol reporter for the OC Register, is among the winners of the 2009 George Foster Peabody Awards for her “precise, courageous and often moving accounts” from Afghanistan. Nelson left the Register in 2006 to open National Public Radio’s Afghanistan bureau.
The prestigious international award recognizes achievement and public service in radio, TV and other electronic media. Nelson’s reporting was honored because “no reporter in any medium give us a better sense of the variety of life inside Afghanistan.”
