If the headline looks familiar, it should. Back in December, the Orange Juice blog and New Santa Ana Blogs roundly criticized Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez for hosting a fundraiser. “Admin” for NewSantaAna wrote then that “Families in Santa Ana are lucky to make $789 a week and Sanchez wants up to $2,400 from them, for the pleasure of her company?”
Well, Santa Ana Councilman Sal Tinajero’s re-election campaign is kicking off with a pricey fundraiser of their own.
April 27, Tinajero is seeking $1,000 each for a host reception that includes a photo with “Ugly Betty” actor Tony Plana.Â
A bigger reception follows where Tinajero seeks only $249 a head. The event will be held April 27 at the Borchard House residence of Councilman Vince Sarmiento and his wife Eva, with Councilman Tinajero providing “private tours.”Â
So, as NewSantaAna noted in December, in these tough times when Santa Ana families are making it by on less than $800 a week, isn’t $1,000 or even $249 just out of reach for the vast majority of families in Santa Ana?Â
Don’t expect to find any criticism of Mr. Tinajero on these blogs despite the remarkably similar situation his fundraiser has in common with that of Rep. Sanchez? And while her top end was $2400, that simply represents the maximum individuals can contribute.
