This past Thursday’s edition of the Irvine World News was soaking wet when I opened it up from last week’s rain. And after reading Adam Probolsky’s colume about Rep. John Campbell trying to save some pocket change by going the signature route for candidacy for re-election (and conveniently omitting the fact that Campbell left out Tustin and Irvine in a list fo cities he represents in CD-48 in the email request), I turned to the Letters to the Editor page.
There, was this magnificent letter, concerning American relief efforts in Haiti, which should be a non-partisan issue, right? Nope. Here’s the Letter:
WHY AMERICA IS THE GREATEST
The disaster in Haiti is a reminder once again of why America is the greatest country in the history of the world and why the U.S. is the greatest force for good on the planet. Just as in Malaysia after the tsunami, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Army and the U.S. government relief aid will lead the day.
This is all bad news for the Michael Moores of the world and all leftist college-campus crowd and liberal America-bashers and haters everywhere on the left. It’s not Russia or Cuba or any of the Muslim countries that will sweep in and save the day and rescue everyone and help survivors.
It’s good old fashioned capitalist America that again will shine, help everyone, and then be criticized and hated afterwards, as always.
Roger Hawkes, Irvine
Well Roger sounds liike a loyal Republican. And I’m betting Roger is a regular viewer of Fox News too, but I can’t say for certain.
Which is why I’m sure Roger missed the massive relief concert for Haiti that was organized and hosted by leftist liberal George Clooney and Haitian-born Wyclef Jean with a little help from other liberals like Jack Nicholson, Jennifer Aniston, Billy Crystal, John Cusack, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Rihanna, Bono, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and Bill Clinton (and I’m sure I’m leaving a lot of people out). Clooney kicked off the night by making a one million dollar personal donation with a goal of raising an even billion dollars.
The networks who carried the event?
ABC, CBS, CNBC, CNN, Comedy Central, NBC, the CW, FOX, TNT, MSNBC, The Weather Channel, HBO, Showtime, E! Entertainment Network, ReelzChannel, TNT, Oxygen, Bravo, G4, CMT, BET, MTV, MTV2, VH1, GMC, Current, PBS and a host of smaller channels. Who’s missing? Fox News.Â
So what’s keeping Bill O’Reilly from making a million dollar donation to Haiti? Could it be those installment payments to former employee Andrea Mackris for the settlement of their sexual harrassment suit?Â
Helping Haiti is the right thing to do from a humanitarian standpoint. And while I agree with Mre. Hawkes that America is the greatest force for good in the world today, knocking those of us on the left is completely off-base and misguided. Especially given the results of the telethon.Â
“Leftist college-campus crowd”. LOL.
