News Roundup for Monday, March 30

An occasional posting of news stories that pique our interest for no special reason.

Chapman Law professor Tom Campbell is dark horse Republican candidate for governor –  “if California’s leaders had insisted on hard spending caps when Gov. Gray Davis was in office, with his last budget, adjusted for inflation and population, ‘we would actually be balanced today, even with the stock market crash.’ ”

Former Republican gubernatorial candidate Richard Riordan feels love/hate for the May ballot measures — “The rich (and I am one of them) already have their mansions, airplanes and yachts. There is nothing morally or ethically wrong with increasing their taxes. But if the burden becomes too great, the rich will simply take their money (and the taxes they pay and the jobs they create) and move elsewhere. And it is the poor who will be hurt by such an exodus.”

Buy a black car today,  and not just because sales tax is going up — “In yet another case of Regulators Gone Wild, California legislation may soon restrict the color options for your next car. The specific colors that are currently on the chopping block are all dark hues, with the worst offender seemingly the most innocuous color you could think of: black.”

You scumbag, you maggot, you cheap lousy ulcer therapy treatment — “Maggots are selective eaters, so they will eat dead flesh while leaving the live tissue intact. This makes them excellent wound cleaners because they are able to remove dead and infected skin on open sores without slowing the growth of new skin.”

Popularity of toll roads might be waning in OC, but they could take off elsewhere — “Recent economic doldrums might have slowed housing and commercial development in Riverside County, but transportation officials are embarking on a massive widening plan along Highway 91 through Corona that will be the costliest in county history.”

  1. Maggots are more selective than politicians, they only eat the living…their own source of life.
