The Irvine Tattler hangs it up

The Irvine Tattler, a web site that offered no ability to correct incorrect information, is going offline on Valentine’s Day. The site, which hadn’t had a new posted since October 29, 2008 (they ran out of gas before election day) slung some of the best mud out there, mostly directly at Todd Gallinger for his Muslim faith.

Publisher, alledged city watchdog and Christina Shea’s executive assistant on the council Stephen C. Smith is leaving Irvine for Florida.

Here’s what the note on the site says:

The Irvine Tattler will go off-line on February 14, 2009.
My wife and I are planning a move to Florida, so I
will no longer be able to maintain this web site.
Thank you for your interest in Irvine government and politics.
-Stephen C. Smith
So, it appears Shea has an opening for someone else to try and drag the names of Irvine’s progressive majority through the mud.  I’d say I’d miss Steve’s site, but then I’d be lying.

  1. I think the Irvine Tattler was a last ditch effort to combat the “Irvine City News” (or whatever it was called) that reached Irvine residence’s mailboxes. Unfortunately, the “newspaper” was simply a voting junket, but it looked authentic enough (fooled me for the first week).

While I don’t agree with attacking Gallinger’s religion, the Tattler evolved from an effort to combat Kang’s political drive. In the end, it worked, but let’s be fair about who started the mud slinging…

  2. in a way i think the same should happen to this blog. this blog used to be a great blog now it’s just boring and lifeless. prevatt and cheminowski pretty much have run this once great blog into the ground. lawson should shake things up here or just do the same. that way you two chumleys can start your own blogs and make them boring and lifeless just like you have to this blog.

  3. who started the mud slinging is an issue? Given the amount of time and effort spent investigating Todd while he was still a private citizen makes that argument irrelevent.

Jose, if I don’t like a TV show, I don’t watch it. If you don’t like the blog, might I suggest several of the Lefty blogs in the left hand column.

  4. prevatt and cheminowski, dont be so defensive i’m just pointing something out. you have to admit this blog has gone way down hill. and the reason i come back is because i’m hoping it will get better but it doesnt and thats really sad to see. i feel there is hope for this once great blog i really do. i dont come in here as much as i used to and when i do theres really nothing to comment on because for the most part it’s just boring. but like i said i do have hope.
