A recent campaign mailer put out on behalf of Coast Community College Board of Trustees candidates Armando Ruiz and Mary Hornbuckle has caused controversy between supporters and others involved in this year’s campaign.

The mailer’s front side has two separate pictures of Ruiz and Hornbuckle side by side with a slogan reading, “Re-elect Educational Leaders Armando Ruiz and Mary Hornbuckle.†On the back side of the mailer is a picture of Ruiz standing with Hornbuckle and student trustee Michael Battistone.
But those in the photo, Ruiz, Hornbuckle and student trustee Michael Battistone, say they know nothing about the mailer and didn’t agree to be part of it. None of them objects to it, they say, but none of them has endorsed the other for the three open seats on the board. The mailer was apparently paid for by United Citizens for Better Community Colleges run by William Vega. Vega retired in 2004 as chancellor of the Community College District.
Barbara Price, president of the part-time teacher’s union, said she is “disgusted†by the flyer because it pictures Hornbuckle, who the union endorsed, with Ruiz, who the union doesn’t support. Price said the mailer gives voters the wrong impression and implies that Ruiz and Hornbuckle are running as a team.

Well, it looks like they are running as a team. They posed for the picture didn’t they?
Both Ruiz and Hornbuckle need to go. I just can’t support Prinsky but I;m voting for Charlotte Pirch.
