Pedroza Jumps the Gun on Truman Dinner Speaker

Governor Bill Richardson (D-NM)Over on the Orange Juice Blog Art Pedroza has announced that a “pajarito” has told him that New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is scheduled to be the featured speaker at the 2008 Democratic Party of Orange County Truman Awards Dinner.

I ran into DPOC Executive Director Melahat Rafiei tonight so I asked her about it. She said, “While Governor Richardson is a possible speaker for the 2008 truman Awards Dinner no date has been confirmed.”

I think it is probably a little early to claim that Richardson “will be” the speaker at the Dinner if the date hasn’t even been set.

  1. Chris,
It was anounced at the DPOC Central Committee Meeting tonight that Gov Richardson will be the keynote speaker at the Truman Dinner. Melahat lied to you.

  2. The wheels continue to fall off the bus. Nice post by Art on Evan Bayh; considering he’s not the VP candidate.

  3. You probably already know this, but Art’s “pajarito’s” have been proven unreliable time and time again. He’s generally willing to post unsubstantiated rumors because he’s more concerned with the success of his blog than he is with the facts. He’s more than happy to be the “National Enquirer” of the OC political blogosphere.

  4. Melahat is the Executive Director of the DPOC. No date has been confirmed and no one was authorized to make such an announcement at the DPOC meeting. The announcement was premature.

When the date and speakers for the Truman Dinner are finalized, we will share any “Official” announcement from the DPOC with our readers.

  5. Dan and Chris,

My source on this story was a very good one – but he preferred not to be named. Not a big deal. I’m sorry your party could not find a white lawyer to speak at your next Truman dinner. I know you must be quite heartbroken about that.

Perhaps it is not too late to get Biden? He’s a white lawyer. Will that please you two?

Personally I think Richardson would be an awesome pick for your next Truman dinner. If Obama wins I am certain Richardson will be involved in his Cabinet.

Lastly, I was thrilled to see that Bayh was rumored as a pick for VP. He would have been a truly lame choice. But Biden is also an awful pick. Obama should have selected a woman V.P. If McCan’t picks a woman the Obama ticket is going to be in serious trouble.

Never mind the red and blue picks, I am voting for the Libertarian ticket!

  6. Art, you are a jackass.

Our comments are NOT in opposition to Governor Richardson possiblly being a speaker at the Truman Dinner. In fact, we have been sitting on the story for a while now. But since no dates had been determined, we took the responsible road and decided not to run the story until arrangements were finalized. To date, that has not occurred.

How dare you play a white lawyer card against the DPOC in responding here. If you want to peddle this type of bullshit, do it somewhere else.

  7. White lawyers? Do you have something against white lawyers Art!? That sounds pretty racist to me. If you care to watch the convention tonight, you will notice my party is one of many races. A full 24 percent of the delegates are African American. Five percent are Gay/Lesbian.

Bayh would have been fine. Your post dealt mostly with his father Birch. You neglected to mention that Qualye’s family owned the Indianapolis Star, the state’s top newspaper at the time. He got some good coverage as you might imagine. Evan Bayh is a popular senator in Indiana.

Glad you’re going with Bob Barr Art. He’s only been married about three times and despite his pro-life stance, wanted his own wife to abort their first kid. Glad to know you support a serial philanderer who is a hypocrite to boot.

  8. Art also made a reference to “white” guys when he wrote a post about potential CA Gubernatorial candidates.

Art, you have no credibility when it comes to matters of racial tolerance and reconciliation. From now on, spare us any sanctimonious preaching on the subject.

  9. Hey guys, I know you’re the blog owners, but commenters, as far as I know, are not permitted to call other people “jackass”.

Ever heard of the Golden Rule?

  10. Lindsey Hopkins, DPOC political director, gave Melahat’s report at the DPOC meeting and said that Richardson was confirmed for the Truman dinner and that he will provide the DPOC with 4 weeks notice of the exact date.

  11. I am very disappointed Obama did not pick Hillary for v.p. not that Bieden bad but I do not know him,& don’t think i’m alone, everybody knows Hillary she would have definally won him the presidential office,as it is, its still up fot grabs, Hillary was very gracious but I think with out her those of us that voted for her will sit this one out others will go McCain, may have cost him the white house [SO CLOSE] .
Time will tell , Obama wife seems to be the strongest of the two. Obama’s].

  12. Chris,

Actually, I’ll have to disagree with you. Looks like calling someone a “jackass” violates terms 1 and 2 to me.

  13. “Lindsey Hopkins, DPOC political director, gave Melahat’s report at the DPOC meeting and said that Richardson was confirmed for the Truman dinner”

So then what you are saying is that Art Pedroza got it right and this entire post was an excercise in futility. Will Chris recant his over-the-top criticism and admit Pedroza got it right?

Let’s wait and see if these pompous, self-aggrandizing, know-it-all’s will apologize for this shameless attack.

  14. Sean,

What Lindsey said was in response to rumors circulated by an individual member of the DPOC Executive Committee. What Lindsey said was that Governor Richardson had confirmed his interest but that his appearance was tentative pending date confirmation.

Melahat’s statement to me on Monday is the official response from the DPOC. “While Governor Richardson is a possible speaker for the 2008 Truman Awards Dinner, no date has been confirmed.”
