Art Show to Benefit Democratic Convention Delegates

Santa Ana, CA –Artists for Obama is sponsoring a reception and silent art auction Saturday, August 2, 2008, to assist locally elected Obama delegates cover their travel and hotel expenses for the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado later in the month. The auction will be held in the Artists Village at the Santora Arts Building, 207 Broadway, Santa Ana, CA 92701 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

The Artists for Obama group is an informal collaboration of Orange County artists supporting Barack Obama’s Presidential Campaign.  The collaborative includes local artists who believe in the actualization of the democratic process in general.  These artists represent a local creative voice and have become a part of what is now Barack Obama’s grass-roots national political movement.

Of special note is the participation of acclaimed artists Matthew Barrios Southgate, Marten Euchler, Misha (Ma’Heo) Houser (a pledged delegate representing the 47th Congressional District) and Vladimir.  Each has contributed original portraits of Senator Obama for auction at the event.  Additionally, several artist village restaurants will be donating sample fare in a mini “Taste of the Village” reception.

In Denver, all delegates will register their votes to nominate the Democratic Presidential candidate. All travel costs, accommodations and expenses are each delegate’s responsibility. “Artists for Obama” intends to help ensure the full participation of Obama delegates on the national scene by raising funds for local delegates. Proceeds from event participation and the sale of works of art in a silent auction will be contributed to a Delegate Fund to help defray the costs incurred by individual delegates.

Hosted by the Santora Artists Guild, the event will also rally and inspire supporters of Presidential contender Barak Obama and art lovers alike.

Tickets to the event are available at the door or by calling ( 714) 454-6486.  Minimum donation is $15.00 per person.

  1. Yes, I’m a Hillary delegate…so is Marti Schrank. This event is a benefit for delegates who are still trying to raise enough money for the convention. Both Marti and I are beneficiaries, as well as Michele Martinez, Chris Prevatt, and Erik Sjobek.

Those are the five people who responded to the artists in the Santora Arts Building when they put out a call to Orange County delegates. Some of the organizers were at the Unity BBQ, which is where I found out about the fundraiser.

I hope you all can make it — if you would like to have an amazing portrait of Barack Obama, there are four different portraits which will be available at the auction…and yes, I did create one of them. Matt Southgate, Vladimir, and Marten Euchler (whose work is pictured with this story) are the artists who created them. Many of you may be familiar with Southgate’s portraits and images of the urban landscape of Southern California. His portrait of Obama is my favorite.

I think it’s pretty amazing and I hope that you all support these good folks as they become more involved in Democratic politics.
