OK, I’m sure I’m not the only one who was deeply disappointed by the recent vote to “reform” FISA by deforming our Constitutional rights. This is really lousy news. And worse, it puts us on the path toward further erosion of the basic framework that has made America such a great place.
But still, there is some good news for us to appreciate. Our own fabulous Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Wonderful) opposed this horrid legislation that would eat away our right to privacy (even more than Bush already has before) while giving telecom companies retroactive immunity for breaking the law by assisting Bush in spying on all of us. She deserves our deepest gratitude for doing the right thing instead of the politically “easy” alternative.
This is why we should thank Loretta Sanchez for sticking up for real American values. Send a thank you note. Donate to her campaign. Volunteer if you’d like to be on the front lines of making sure Loretta Sanchez will be serving us well for many years to come.
Just make sure that Loretta Sanchez knows how much we appreciate her. When she could have caved into pressure from the Bush-Cheney White House, she instead stood fast and supported our right to privacy. And while some Republicans around here might call that “stupid”, I call it a real act of courage.
And frankly, I like seeing my members of Congress showing some real courage every now and then. 🙂
Thanks for the great post Andrew.
Thank God the majority of the House has more sense than Loretta Sanchez.

Wow. So you like spinelessness? Capitulation? Rolling over for all things Bush-Cheney? Oh yes, I guess GOPers do.
Thank-
Thanks! And agreed. 😉
