A Note from The “Keeping Irvine Great” Ticket

This is Mayor Beth Krom.

I am writing to let you know that Campaign 2008 is underway and we want you to be a part of it! If you are receiving this e-mail, you have a history of supporting our past campaigns. We hope you will join us again…this is an important election for our community.

As you may know, term limits prevent me from running for a third term as Mayor this November. I have been honored to serve this community as Mayor and want to ensure that we continue to move in a positive direction. For that reason, I am endorsing Sukhee Kang for Mayor.
 
Sukhee, who now serves as Mayor Pro Tem, has been one of the most dedicated City Councilmember’s in Irvine’s history, working throughout the community and strengthening our relationships with the business community, our schools and the many cultural, faith and non-profit communities throughout our city. He has a positive “can do” spirit, and is not afraid to do the work necessary to accomplish great things for the citizens of Irvine.

And, while I cannot run for Mayor, I can…and will…run for Irvine City Council. I care deeply about the future of our community and I have learned that even a good Mayor needs strong support from the City Council to get things accomplished.

I’m proud of what I have accomplished as Mayor over the past four years. With consistent support from Councilmembers Sukhee Kang and Larry Agran,  the quality of life elements that define our community have been successfully maintained and enhanced 
    •Public Safety — Irvine was just named “Safest Big City in America” for the FOURTH YEAR IN A ROW!
    •Planning — Irvine has implemented innovative “smart growth” principles and greenbuilding programs…
        and I am proud to be one of more than 800 Mayors nationwide who have signed the US Conference of          
        Mayors Climate Protection Agreement
    •Parks and Open Space — we have enhanced our inventory of community parks and natural open space
        reserves and have been twice recognized as one of the “100 Best Communities for Young People in America”
   •Transportation and Mobility — we have undertaken a multi-year traffic signal upgrade to improve          
         circulation on local streets, have expanded parking at the Irvine Transportation Center and have
        introduced “the i-shuttle,” Irvine’s first transit circulator in the IBC
    •The Orange County Great Park — Join us on July 12th when the first phase of the 27 acre “preview                
        park” will open, there will be a grand re-launch of the Great Park Balloon and we will start night
        flights!

…I recognize that continuing to move our community forward will take strong, positive and dedicated leadership. That’s why I’m supporting Sukhee Kang for Mayor!

In addition to his consistent support for public safety (he has twice been endorsed by Police and Fire), good planning and environmental stewardship (he has the endorsement of the Sierra Club and League of Conservation voters), and transportation enhancements, Sukhee has led the City Council to provide greater support for local schools by:
    •Initiating the effort to create the Irvine Educational Partnership Fund to support nurses,
        counselors and health and nutrition programs in local schools
   •Gaining City Council support to grant $1 million dollars in support to local schools this year
   •Advancing the Irvine Children’s Health Program to ensure health access for all Irvine children

I am also proud to support Larry Agran in his re-election campaign for City Council. Larry was Mayor when I joined the City Council and it was his vision and leadership as Mayor that led us to victory in our fight to stop the El Toro Airport Plan. No public official has been more dedicated to securing a bright future for the City of Irvine — and I know that Larry will continue to invest himself fully to advance positive initiatives on behalf of the City of Irvine.

This campaign is about building a legacy of POSITIVE leadership for the City of Irvine.
