This past Saturday, Orange County’s very own and favorite Mexican was given the first place award for Best Column in a publication with a circulation of more than 55,000 for what is the first thing I read every week in the OCWeekly, Ask A Mexican. The award was given out at the 13th annual AltWeekly Awards luncheon sponsored by the Association of Alternative Weeklies held this year in Philadelphia.
According to the AAN,
Host Gustavo Arellano of OC Weekly kept the audience entertained by having winners shout out their favorite Spanish words. When Arellano won first place in the large-circulation division of the Column category, he mixed things up by sharing a phrase in English: “Syndicate my column, please.”ÂÂ
Another trophy for the shelf. Keep this up and you’ll need an entire room.
Felicidades, señor. Es bien merecido.
Congrats Gus. See you soon. Call me when you have some free time.

Send me email, Paul: I never check my messages.
Bill: Gracias for the love!
Congratulations to Gustavo. Also to Scott Moxley. The announcement says he won second place nationally in the public service category for his Sheriff Carona investigations. Way to go guys!
Sincere apologies to Scott. I did not see an announcement. A pajarito told me about Gustavo and that’s what I passed along. Had I known Scott received recognition I would most certainly have made mention. They both received awards last year from the LA Press Club. You guys rock! Congratulations, Scott.
