I know I have been giving Paul Lucas (2006 Dem candidate for 68th Assembly against Van Tran, almost candidate for First District Supervisor and current Garden Grove City Council hopeful and Sanitary District Advisory Commissioner, and ex-officio member of the DPOC Central Committee) a lot of crap over the past several weeks. But in my defense, he has been fueling it somewhat himself. Here is an example of what I mean. In an email to me yesterday Paul made the following claim:
“You are forgetting the fact that if were not for me, Janet Nguyen would not have her job right now. Heck if it wasn’t for me she would not even have the opportunity to run for her position in the first place.”
Paul goes on to say…
“You should maybe stop and think about that fact and maybe you should think about thanking me for making it possible for her to run for the 1st district in the first place. Additionally had I not stepped in on behalf of the GGDBD she would not be able to claim credit for her getting the arches on Main Street, helping to firm up her base in GG with non-Vietnamese voters. So again, I really think you should thank me for all the things I have one on behalf of your new friend Janet Nguyen.”
So let me see if I’ve got this right.
Paul Lucas is such a good Democrat that he is responsible for Republican Janet Nguyen being elected as a County Supervisor, and he has been working with Rebublican Consigliere Mike Schroeder in support of Republicans Dina Nguyen and Van Tran by signing a letter to the GOP Central Committee attesting to how bad a Republican Janet Nguyen is. Also, lest we forget, he did this all as part of his devious cleverless plan to destroy Republican Assemblyman Van Tran.
Paul, you are a legend in your own mind. Really, only in your mind.ÂÂ
I wonder if Scott Weimer the President of the Down Town Business association knows your taking all the credit…. So Paul Tell us how you helped Janet Nguyen….. Also, Paul tell us how you your working for Dina Nguyen right now behind Hoa’s back its pretty obviouse with a certain phone call you had with someone pretty recently that lives in South County… Yes we know Paul we Know!!!!!
I wonder how many other elected Republicans Paul takes credit for in helping them get elected?
Wouldn’t it be funny to find out that Paul ACTUALLY HELPED Van Tran get re-elected. How sick would that be?
Guess what I found!
http://paullucas2008.com/endorsements.asp
This is Paul’s list of endorsements for his Garden Grove City Council campaign. Chris, do you know if any of these organizations have really endorsed him? I could’ve sworn that the OC Democratic Party hasn’t endorsed him — let alone for any races in the November election.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that these are the endorsements from the 2006 68th Assembly race. At least I hope so. Me thinks he just copied over the sight from the previous campaign.
Why is it that whenever Paul speaks, the hole he’s dug himself into keeps getting bigger and deeper?
Is this for real?
I’ve met Paul on several occasions and at several political events. Paul does not come across as an idiot, least not the kind of idiot who would type the kind of comments/emails that have been attributed to him in the last couple of months.
Are you really sure the email and comments are from Paul Lucas the candidate? Maybe there is someone else using Paul’s name and writing stupid things.
(hey I’m trying anything to give him a way out…)
Chris, even if he copied it over, it is still illegal for him to claim organizational endorsements he hasn’t earned. Whether he didn’t know it or not, he could face legal challenges from these groups.
Granted, I don’t know anyone who would want to put Paul through anymore public scruitiny, but the carelessness of his actions are the very reason why someone within the party should get to him. He could cause a black eye for us this year when we have a chance to gain traction against the republicans.
I am certain. The email came from Paul, and was copied by him to several other people.
I really do not know how the Central Committee will react to this one. It looks like he has stepped beyond grounds for censure, into the deep abyss of removal from the Central Committee as provided by the Party Bylaws. At a minimum, I doubt he will be endorsed in his run for Garden Grove City Council. This is really sad, because Paul has really been there for a lot of Dems over the years.
Article II., Section 6. Removal
1. The office of any member, alternate or associate, may be declared vacant by resolution of the County Committee if any member, alternate or associate, affiliates with or registers as a member of another party, publicly advocates that voters not vote for an endorsed nominee of the Democratic Party, gives support or avows a preference for a candidate of another party or a candidate who is opposed to a candidate nominated and endorsed by this party.
While it could be argued that his actions occurred prior to an official endorsement, his written words do muddy the waters a bit.
Well, I guess that’s it for Paul. I wonder what his farewell speech at Central Committee will be like?
A little bird told me that Paul Lucas is not endorsed by Congresswoman Sanchez.
His webiste wronly states she has endorsed him for GG City Council.
Paul was endorsed by the Congresswoman Sanchez for his Assembly Race in 2006 but he is out of line to assume that endorsement carries over to his city council race.
Chris,
You are jumping the shark again.
My role in the Peer To Peer Program tht made that program possible for the CYD to canvass the entire 34th SD on behalf of Lou Correa and grnered him the margin of victory is what my role in getting Lou elected to the Sente. Remmeber it was a squeeker.
This is how Janet was allowed to run for the BOS in the first place.
For the sake of clarity. I do not think that Paul Lucas should be removed as an ex-officio member of the Democratic Party of Orange County Central Committee for several reasons.
First; even though Paul has claimed responsibility for Janet Nguyen’s election to the Board of Supervisors, there is no evidence to even suggest that such is possible or even happened at all.
Second; Paul’s real offense here is his lack of good judgment in using his position to make false statements in the form of a letter addressed to the OCGOP Central Committee members in an effort to influence the outcome of an OCGOP endorsement vote.
Third; Hasn’t Paul been embarrassed enough?
Paul!
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Now you’re responsible for the CYD Peer to Peer Program from 2006?!!!!
Stop Digging!!!!!!
The DPOC Central Committee has not endorsed Paul Lucas. The endorsements for all non-partisan Democratic candidates, Garden Grove included, will not take place until after filing is closed in August. Pretty desperate on Paul’s part and not at all honorable.
There one name on that endorsement list that I’m certain is not factually accurate. Richard Chavez, was previously mayor pro tem before he lost in the last city council election.
In fact, I think Richard was recently convicted of not paying his fair share of taxes and admitted guilt in htis matter. Not much of endorsement a candidate running for council should really tout to the apathetic electorate.
Bottom line, Paul had no chance of winning a seat on the GG council because there is a significant bloc of voters who vote based on your last name than your experiences, credentials and goals. He needs to change his name to Paul Nguyen to have a chance.
Even last year some on the council, seeing the never challenges for non-Vietnamese candidates considered and proposed the possibilty of expanding the council seats and having ward elections.
I believe in 12 years, Garden Grove will have a all-Vietnamese council just like Santa Ana has a all-Hispanic council and were people vote based external influences other than a candidates content.
I dont believe any of these groups, electeds, or individuals have endorsed Paul for GG City Council. How crazy and delusional. What hubris, what a bad move.

Okay,
Enough with the endorsement list. We all KNOW that these endorsements are from 2006.
hubris

overbearing pride or presumption
This is soooo bad…
Paul, I had no idea you were single-handedly involved in every single aspect of the DPOC and GOP playbook in 2006. Can you let us in on how you got Bill Clinton elected in 1992? Or perhaps how you got us to the moon in 1969? Or maybe how you invented “post-it notes?” And that BS about Al Gore inventing the internet? Nope that was Paul Lucas! Genius master-mind!
Chris,
To be honest with you I did not even know that my web guy has gotten the website up yet. Thanks for the info. I have to get the info updated. As far as the Peer to Peer program, I am responsible for the literature that was used in that program. Several thousand pieces. Half of which were taken up north to be used in the campaign against Dick Pombo. The CYD came to me one day and asked for my help in the acquiring of the literature.
At the request of my friend Tim Steed and CYD President Crystal Strait, I used my established relationships with some of those who had endorsed me and acquired a donation of printing art work, design, layout, cutting folding and packaging and delivery to the CYD Peer to Peer Program office in Santa Ana. This is a significant achievement in that it was a donation totaling thousands of dollars in kind gifts to the program.
The program was AMAZINGLY well administered run by Tim Steed, then the Chair of the OCYD as well as Aruni Thakur OCYD current Vice Chair. The amazing success of that program later HELPED earn Tim Steed the edge he needed in order to win the election of the CYD Chairmanship. The first Young Democrat to be the President of the California Young Democrats. You know all this so I am very confused in the tone you are using in your writing as if this is all brand new news to you. This is all verifiable and well-known in the area.
The margin of victory in the 34th SD was by less than one thousand votes. The Peer to Peer program made several thousands of contacts, impressions and signed pledge cards from about 12 thousand young voters in the 34th SD. I believe that turnout from those pledge cards was around 45%. That means about 5 thousand votes gained form that Peer to Peer program.
And yes, had I not stepped up and chipped in that program would not have had the time, funds, or materials to even get off the ground in a significant manner. In fact it was so successful due to the fact that I had the materials printed and delivered in such a short time by my connections, half the resources were available to be used in a campaign to removed Dick Pombo from office.
So, although I meant that email to you remain private between you and I, I must clarify the statement here in a public forum. Had it not been for me, Janet Nguyen would not have been able to run for the BOS.
These are just the facts Chris. I hope this clarifies the issue for your readers
.
Even though you’ve complimented Tim regarding his work in your previous comment, haven’t you been somewhat critical of Tim’s work on your campaign?
Instead of spending all of your time fighting pointless and petty internecine battles, why not spend a little time talking about something real, like the Irvine Company’s attempt to break the back of the janitors’ union and the failure of the local press to report accurately or honestly.
SEIU LOCAL1877 JANITOR CONTRACT CAMPAIGN UPDATE
ORANGE COUNTY JANITORS AUTHORIZE STRIKE!
May 5, 2008.
The Orange County and Los Angeles County janitor’s contract expired last Wednesday, April 30th. We have yet to reach a settlement, as, after over two months of negotiations, 1) cleaning contractors delayed in discussing economic issues at the bargaining table and 2) The Irvine Company, the largest landlord in Orange County, has so far refused to engage and — based on the positions taken by their contractors, may be intent on maintaining unacceptably low wage and benefit levels. This lack of engagement is in sharp contrast to the leadership role The Irvine Company took in 2003, when janitors secured health care for their families.
The Irvine Company is dragging Orange County into a crisis.
As you know, janitors remain committed to actively bargain and reach a fair contract in a timely manner, but remain concerned that the lack of progress at the negotiating table and attempts by cleaning contractors to illegally intimidate janitors and commit unfair labor practices, may result in labor unrest.
Janitors in Los Angeles and Orange County had strike authorization meetings.
Is Paul telling people that he has the Janitor’s Union endorsement for his campaign when he really doesn’t?
“To be honest with you I did not even know that my web guy has gotten the website up yet.”
That just shows you how out-of-touch you are with your own campaign. If you don’t know what’s going on with your campaign, how can the voters trust you to know what’s going on in the City of Garden Grove?
Paul, now is not the time to suck up. You have been bitching about Tim for years. You have said how he never supports you or helped on your campaign. And Tim won his CYD election on his own, through his own hard work. IT HAD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU. He has built up relationships over the years that have led to his success. You on the other hand bully people to give you money, print literature, etc. You simply are not a nice person.
The arches on Main Street may help with her “base” which includes her Brother in law and the Main Street Merchants Assn. But it will hardly help in Garden Grove. Mainstream Garden Grove thinks the Merchants Assn. is a joke.
Did I read this right?
At the request of my friend Tim Steed and CYD President Crystal Strait, I used my established relationships with some of those who had endorsed me and acquired a donation of printing art work, design, layout, cutting folding and packaging and delivery to the CYD Peer to Peer Program office in Santa Ana. This is a significant achievement in that it was a donation totaling thousands of dollars in kind gifts to the program.
I would assume the campaigns for these efforts have reported the donations of “in-kind” and “reduced or donated services” as would be appropriate. Paul, just the kind of elected official we need, someone who uses other people’s names (endorsements) to leverage political paybacks. Isn’t this what Carona is on trial for? Maybe no direct payments but services have $ value.
I know you’ve never won an election to anything, but if you are a commissioner you must be reporting donations/contributions if they are within your jurisdiction.
You really need to crawl under a rock for a few years and hope people forget all the things you’ve been saying/typing these last few months.
I would like to endorse Paul Lucas for the 2006 Assembly race against Van Tran, so he can save Lou C senate race., rescue the young dems of oc efforts, and elect Janet to suppervisor.
