OK, I think you all know that I’ve been changing my mind lately in regards to who I am supporting for President. However, not all my friends at Daily Kos knew my history of hoping for Gore, then looking at Edwards, then falling in love with Obama, then falling out of love with Obama and in love with Gore again… And finally making a commitment with Hillary. If you’re curious about why I had been flip-flopping so much, and why I made my final decision, check out my latest Daily Kos diary on why I made the change.
Believe me, that diary will explain why I’m so excited about this VERY SPECIAL EVENT on Sunday. I’m so thrilled that I’ll be joining the one, the only, the legendary labor leader Dolores Huerta as well as our trusted State Assembly Member Jose Solorio for a holiday party for Hillary at 12:30 this Sunday in Santa Ana! There will be food, fun, festivities… And most importantly, we’ll be making calls to help Hillary win.
When: Sunday, December 23, 2007 at 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM
Where: Libreria Martinez
1110 N. Main Street
Santa Ana, CA 92701
General Area: between Washington Ave. and 10th St.Description: Assemblymember Jose Solorio will be hosting Dolores Huerta, friends, and local community leaders to make phone calls on behalf of Hillary Clinton and enjoy food, drinks, and the company of friends during the holidays. For more information, email socalhrc@hillaryclinton.com or you can call 213-908-0190.
Now doesn’t that sound fun? I know I can hardly wait! So check out the great surprises I have for you in my Daily Kos diary, and join me on Sunday to call for Hillary! 🙂
I will be in San Diego with la familia and unable to attend(full disclosure–I’m for Richardson) but encourage all to attend and buy something at Libreria Martinez.
Rueben Martinez donates thousands of hours a year going to schools and giving inspirational speeches, being a virtual one-man band to encourage reading in Latino households, opening up his bookstore to events like this one and generally being a great community leader. Many people pat Reuben on the back when they show up at events. But you know what? Most don’t buy any of the books or artwork or magazines that Reuben has for sale. They give a high cinco to Reuben and then drive up Main Street to Barnes and Noble for their books. Nothing against B&N, but times are tough for the nation’s independent bookstores and Libreria Martinez is no exception.
So its time to really show Reuben a little love. Yesterday I went by the store and bought $100 in gift certificates. Whether you are going to the Clinton event or not, stop by Libreria Martinez and show your support for one of the county’s great independent businessman. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a chance to talk to Reuben or Alice and they’ll give you a tour of both the main store and the children’s bookstore.
John-
OK, I’ll remember to do so. Thanks for reminding me! Reuben, like Dolores and Jose and Hillary, is a change-making icon. He’s done so much for our community in Central Orange County, and he’s such a strong advocate for empowering the Latino community through education. I’ll certainly remember to buy something there, and I’ll remind all my new Hillary friends there to do so as well! 🙂
