As you know, Janet Nguyen’s seat is opening up soonâ€â€the primary race is in June. So far we have two Republican candidates; Janet Nguyen will run for reelection and Trung Nguyen who came in a really close 2nd back in February has vowed vengeance.
With the 2 Republican Nguyens eating each other alive to win (or keep) this seat, it is a great opportunity for a strong democratic candidate to come and take back the 1st. There’s only one problem: we don’t have a serious democratic candidate.
Some might argue that it’s still early in the gameâ€â€Ã¢â‚¬Å“we have 8 months,†you might say in a nasally/whiny way that is reminiscent of the totally annoying and lazy woman that works in my office. But the Nguyens are already hitting the pavement and they’ve already collecting cash.
Our democratic man or woman should be stepping up. It’s time to start talking about and raising money for a race where the opponents of this unnamed candidate are already doing so.
The biggest names that I’ve seen getting floated around are Joe Dunn, and Claudia Alvarez.
Dunn has announced that he will not be running for this seat, and he seems to be content with his gig at the CMA.
And if Claudia Alvarez plans on running she will have to do some major image tweaking. While her Latino surname is recognizable in the 1st, she’s not incredibly popular amongst democrats. Alvarez has been known to rub people the wrong way.
I’ve seen what happens when the totally annoying and lazy person who works in my office procrastinates for too long: she ends up doing a mediocre job and then complaining about not having enough time. Don’t let that be us.
What about Tom Daly?
Tom Daly lives in District 4. What about former Santa Ana City Councilmember Mike Garcia? He may not have had the necessary support to take on Mayor Pulido, but I would bet that many get behind Garcia for the District 1 seat.
It’s as easy as A-B-C: Anybody But Claudia!
Couldn’t agree more.
When did Dunn Announce he would not run? I wouldn’t count him out just yet
Joe Dunn said he wasn’t going to run for the special election that Janet Nguyen ran in last time. he did not count himself out of this upcoming election just yet.
the bottom line is people have to get of their butts and go vote regardless of who the candidate is. nobody is gonna win if we dont show up. that was the problem in that election, nobody showed up.
Jose,
Good point.
But remember that if our man or woman can score 2nd in the primary, then we should do alright getting people off their butts in November 08 for the general.
Joe needs to stop screwing around and announce already!
I agree that Dunn needs to announce one way or the other. He is leaving the DPOC hanging while he mulls over this decision. I personally don’t think he will run. He won’t have any say on the BOS if he were to win and he is making bank at CMA.
You forgot to mention one Claudio W. Gallegos.
Rumor I hear is that a run for Supervisor is his true reason for leaving the Orange Juice blog.
No, Claudio is not running. He is a big fan of Joe Dunn. But I am not.
I don’t think Dunn will run. He is afraid to lose to another Asian candidate. Nguyen is the incumbent. She will win with little trouble. And don’t worry about Photoshop Trung. His sponsor, Schroeder, is immolating as we speak. He is done due to the Carona debacle and the recent flame email he sent to Mark Bucher.
If Clownia runs, you might as well cancel the election…she has NO CHANCE.
