“There are only two kinds of politics. They are not radical and reactionary or conservative and liberal or even Democratic and Republican. There are only the politics of fear and the politics of trust. One says you are encircled by monstrous dangers. Give us power over your freedom so we may protect you. The other says the world is a baffling and hazardous place, but it can be shaped by the will of men. Cast your vote for trust in the ancient traditions of this home for freedom.” — Ed Muskie, 1970 midterm elections.ÂÂ

So what does Ed Muskie have to do with the mean Flash Report post of the day? Keep reading.
Surprisingly, it (the mean post) does not belong to Jon Fleischman who called Senate Democratic Leader Don Perata “a jerk” and “the Golden Pig” for being behind efforts to recall State Senator Jeff Denham. So in the interests of being fair and balanced, let us called Rep. Issa a jerk and a golden pig for funding the recall of Governor Gray Davis (without using the adjectives of “disgraced” and “recalled” in front of the former Governor’s name as Jon so often does on his blog).
So Republicans can recall Democrats and its the principaled thing to do, but when Democrats do it they are “jerks” and “pigs.” Nice. BTW, since Republicans opened the recall door they shouldn’t be surprised when the Democrats decide to use it as a entry to strengthen their own hand. Its called “fair play.” If you want to sling mud, prepare to get dirty.
But today’s mean post of the day is from Jill Buck. And Jill is on the warpath against Code Pink and their anti-war message.  ÂÂ
In a post accompanied by a picture of a Code Pink Group and a picture on a woman in a burka, Jill said:
I’m not going to call Code Pink ignorant; I’m going to call them innocent of the facts.
I’m not going to call Code Pink ungrateful; I’m going to call them uneducated of the truth.
I’m not going to call Code Pink radicals; I’m going to call them friends of radical Islamists.
So, in Jill’s view, if you oppose the war, you’re a friend of radical Islamists. And while invoking 9/11 and praising the troops, Jill wraps with this ditty:
Newsflash, Ladies: our enemy hates you b/c you are free women with tight shirts and bullhorns. If we lose this war, you will be the first ones they round up in a soccer stadium, gang rape, and shoot. They’ve done it before; they’ll do it again, unless our soldiers deny them the opportunity. If you get your way, you’ll go from Code Pink to Code Burka…the freedom you take for granted is no accident.
OK, Jill. Iraq didn’t attack us on 9/11. 17 of the 19 hijackers were Saudis, a country our president regards as an ally. Your post complains of Code Pink’s efforts to block Marine Corp recruiting near a high school. High school kids should be worrying about their next exam or Friday night’s football game. If the military is their next step, chances are, they already know it. And you neglect to mention that a reasonfor going to war (after we couldn’t find WMDs) was to install a democracy upon people who didn’t ask for it. So please get your kids signed up for their tours of duty and if you’re under 35, enlist yourself.
Jill; the war goes badly for your side. The vast majority of the American people trust the Democrats more on handling the war than they do Republicans. And the one thing your post clearly demonstrates is the only idea your party has left to sell is fear. Go read the Ed Muskie quote again. It’s true.
Great Muskie quote, Dan!!
Sad when politicians at all levels use fear as a motivator. But sadly, it works.
And I appreciate your Flash Report updates, saves me from checking his site.
The quote came from Al Gore’s new book, “The Assault on Reason.” Its fantastic reading.
While Jill is certainly out there, Code Pink travels in the same ozone layer. If you catch Cpt. Lund’s letter to Code Pink he points out his office(which was the target of the Code Pink demonstration) does not recruit high school students and does not accept high school students. The MCAS Officers training office only takes college students or college graduates.
One of the demonstrators scrawled a message that Lund was a traitor.
if true, this bizarre, intellectually sloppy and insulting activity by some on the left discredits the effort to stop the war and enables the Fleischman spin machine to take some easy, if not cheap, shots.
The Flash Report is nothing more than moonbats talking to themselves. No one cares what Jon thinks. There are only two types of people who read the FlashReport. Those who already believe in the la la land of conservatism according to Jon, and those who (as Gary South said) are checking to see what the Luddites and Troglodytes are thinking.
