Westminster School Board Trustee Sergio Contreras organized a great backpacks for kids program this month for students in the Westminster School District. The backpack drive was responsible for 1,000 children receiving free backpacks that were stocked with school supplies. Students and their families were also treated to a BBQ to celebrate the start of the new school year.
Contreras wrote in an email to his supporters that these backpacks mean a lot to the families they were distributed to. “Thanks to our generous sponsors, some families were able to send their child to school without worrying and choosing between paying the rent and purchasing school supplies,†Contreras wrote.
