Mitt Romney Channels Richard Nixon

GOP Presidential hopeful and hall of fame flip-flopper Mitt Romney has a secret plan to end the War in Iraq.  How Nixonian…….

Those old time OCers will remember Nixon’s “secret plan” to end the Vietnam war when he ran for the 1968 presidential election.  Hugh Hewitt, the OC man with ties to both Nixon and Romney, must be loving this.

Romney appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America today with host Robin Roberts.  Here’s the transcript:

ROBERTS: As president, would you set a deadline for bringing the troops home?

ROMNEY: Well, I wouldn’t publish it for my adversaries to see.

I would certainly sit down with al-Maliki as well as his government, plot out a series of milestones, timetables as well, measure how well they’re doing.

But that’s not something you’d publish for the enemy to understand, because, of course, they can just lay in the weeds until the time that you’re gone. So these are the kinds of things you do privately, not necessarily publicly.

Didn’t Bush say timelines were …. bad?

  1. Gee Dan, you really don’t understand the difference between confidential unpublished milestones & deadlines? Good planning requires having milestones but you don’t share those with your enemy! Romney’s response makes perfect sense.

  2. Yeah, and the Republicans did such a great job planning the management of the Iraq war…..

This line didn’t work for Conrad Burns in Montana and it won’t for Romney. Doesn’t it bother you Lee, that this guy was pro-abortion and pro-Gay rights in 2002 when he ran for Governor of Massachusetts and only recently turned totally to the moonbat right wing extremist branch of the Republican party?

Why is it ok for Romny to flip flop but not Kerry?

  3. I am happy to answer for Lee. Here is what a conservative would say.

“It is ok to flip flop because he is Republican and everyone knows Jesus only loves Republicans and clearly said in Mark 7:28 that Republicans can do whatever they want.”

  4. I would have to agree with Claudio. Republicans are the chosen people and the Democrats are godless semites. Thanks for pointing that out, Lee. You must be a rocket scientist!

  5. Yet somehow it’s okay to put the full PR crew behind the very public idea of a “surge.”

When someone figures out where the line between “announce our plans” and “don’t tell our enemies” has been drawn, let me know. I can’t seem to figure it out.

  6. Mike – you mean how its not OK for Nancy Pelosi to wear a head scarf in Syria but perfectly OK for Laura Bush or Condi Rice to wear one in Arabia…???
