Conservative talk host Dennis Prager has his underwear in a bunch over Congressman-elect Keith Ellison of Minnesota. Ellison is the first Muslim elected to federal office and Prager is making a major issue out of the fact that Ellison will swear an OATH to the Constitution on the Koran and not the Bible.

The funny thing is that when Congress members are sworn in, they do not use a bible or anything. They simply raise their right hand.
After the swearing in many Congress members pose for pictures with their hands on bibles.
so the question is, when they bring a bible or koran with them, are they swearing to serve that book (i.e., in the case of the bible, they would be swearing to execute people for all manner of things. see leviticus) or the constitution? strange bedfellows.
My understanding always was, you put your hand of the Bible but swear an oath to the Constitution; its not the other way around.
How about ALL politicians just put their hand on said Constitution that they swear to defend?
