  1. DNO-
You should know that many longtime loyal Democratic figures are upset with the chair for making a unilateral decision to hire an Executive Director without a broad search or even a request for resumes from the people who have devoted their careers to making OC a safer place for Democrats.
Their primary beef is with Frank. Mike needs to continue to prove that he is worth his rumored salary.
And what makes his job so far “fantastic” in your opinion?

  2. I must admit that I had my initial doubts over this…But all my doubts have been cleared now!

Already, Mike Levin has been making connections with local Democratic clubs.

Already, Mike Levin helped the DPOC build a badly-needed new website.

And already… I still can’t believe this… the DPOC HQ is clean and organized!!!!

I’m sorry, Anon 7:42/6:36, but I think Mr. Levin is laready proving himself as a great new asset this decision didn’t have to be unilateral… But I think once everyone realizes how well of a job Mike Levin is doing, he would easily win a vote of confidence by the executive board and/or central committee.

  3. Alicia-

I get your point, but Frank is the one raising the money, not the Central Committee.

Frank could have been smarter in how he did the hire, but at the end of the day it is his decision, and Frank has been pretty good at reading people in the past (Kerry campaign had some good people as I remember)

I think we need to be positive until Mike does something that warrants us being suspect.

Let Mike work his ass off in the party office then we can judge.

    GO LEVIN

  4. “Frank is the one raising the money” – but isn’t he doing this in his capacity as Chair of the County Party?
I’m glad that he’s finally doing this, but shouldn’t the committee/e-board have a say in how it is spent since it is being raised in their name?
It would be nice to have a County Committee that could move $100K over to the targeted State Senate nominee. Instead, Mr. Barbaro raises for his pet projects (Levin) and big name candidates (Kerry).

Actually, Frank is the reason we have a voter reg project in SD 34, Frank has raised thousands of dollars to keep SD 34 in our hands.

Frank raises money for alot of local people(Umberg/Dunn/Lucas/Loretta). And he has to raise for the “pet projects” because that is how OC stays relevant and our party doesnt get bypassed by the big time Dems.

Frank is raising money in the capacity not of chair, but of Frank. Do you think people would give big money if they knew that the crazies on the central committee got to say where it went? NO WAY. Frank is able to raise the money because he is trusted.

  6. Whatever funds Mr. Barbaro is raising to fund an ED was supported by those willing to fund an ED.

If anyone thinks those individuals would fund the party to put into races where the registration is not favorable is delusional. It stinks, but it is reality.

One of the jobs of an ED is to cultivate new partnerships and new contributers of various levels. I believe that is one of the goals.

We need to see what happens.

  7. Well, DNO, we’ll have to just disagree on the level of Barbaro’s effectiveness.
In my discussions with many elected officials here in OC, he is known to be good at two things – making promises and taking credit for the monies raised by others.
He’s not so good at fulfilling his own commitments.
Keep on defending him here. But I know a different side of Frank.

“I know a different side of Frank”

Sounds like someone who doesnt know Frank at all, but knows people who talk smack on him.

If the side of Frank you know is what you hear from other activists then you should really take the time to see what Frank actually does for the party.

It is thankless work, and no matter what Frank does people will be upset because they think that Frank is their solution to every campaign problem.

Frank is one person who does more than many when it comes to the party.

I know Frank (really know him) and I see him put his all into the party to make sure we have a voice.

You can do a load of good, so long as you can let someone else take the credit.

This is politics – Everyone gets to take the credit.

The DPOC is an exception along with any chair – If things go right, no one thanks you. When things don’t work out, Blame the DPOC and chair.

Standard Operating Procedures here in OC.
