What do you have planned for the weekend?

There are a lot of things for progressive thinkers to do this weekend. I’ll start by saying that Al Gore’s movie “An Inconvenient Truth” will be playing at the small Edwards right across from UCI. Read my post about the movie here.

Saturday

9:00 a.m. Get in at the ground-level! The Progressive Christians Uniting is starting an Orange County Chapter, and they will have their launch meeting and rally featuring renowned activist clergy leader and co-founder of The Progressive Christians Uniting, Dr. George Regas on hand. The meeting starts at 9 a.m., and should conclude before noon. They will meet at Santa Ana’s Church of the Foothills (corner of Newport & Dodge). 10:00 a.m. Support our troops by helping to get them home! The Military Families Speak Out Orange County meeting is the first Saturday of each month. 11:00 – 4:00 p.m. Help Joe Dunn. Cameron Clinton will be hosting a cellphone party at his home (32012 Avenida Evita, San Juan Capistrano, 92675). Show up with your cell phone, and they’ll give you a script (and some grub). RSVP by calling Tim Steed: 714.621.0829

12:30 p.m. The Sierra Club California Air Quality Committee is hosting Steve Westly, Democratic…you know who he is, right? 7:00 p.m. How do we get peace in Iraq? What’s really going on? What can we do? Journalist Dahr Jamail, filmmaker Mark Manning, author Aaron Glantz, and activist Muna Coobtee will lead an in-depth discussion about the current situation in Iraq and what we can do to help end this humanitarian disaster. There will also be a Q&A with the audience.

6:15 – 9:30 p.m. Are you concerned about excessive corporate influence on politics, education, and society? If yes, come to Irvine to see the movie (for free!) The Big Guy: Tom DeLay’s Stolen Congress. The movie documents the efforts of Tom DeLay and others to steal Congress and the efforts of one man who tried to stop them. Rumor has it, there will be food. The screening will take place at the Irvine Ranch Water District in the multipurpose room (15600 Sand Canyon Ave, Irvine).
