Tomorrow, Dr. Kevin Grady will speak at the OC ACLU Meeting at 7 p.m.

If you aren’t doing anything tomorrow night, I strongly suggest you go to the OC ACLU Chapter meeting at 7:00 p.m. The meetings are held at 15600 Sand Canyon Avenue, Irvine (Irvine Ranch Water District).

The speaker will be Dr. Kevin Grady from the Anti-Defamation League and he will speak on immigration. Dr. Grady is the Associate Director of the Anti-Defamation League, Orange County and Long Beach region. The League is a civil rights and human relations agency whose dual mission is to combat anti-Semitism and end discrimination in all of its forms.

At the ADL, Dr. Grady oversees all education programming; coordinates the region’s response to civil rights issues and hate crimes, monitors extremist groups, and speaks at public forums on issues of civil rights, diversity, anti-Semitism, and education. He holds a masters degree in Political Science and a doctorate in Education from the University of Southern California.

Before joining the ADL, Dr. Grady was the director of Hawaii’s Education Technology Initiative, where he was involved in early efforts to introduce the Internet to classrooms. He has also served as a university professor, and a high school teacher and administrator. Dr. Grady recently authored the first study of its kind to examine the lives of openly gay and lesbian high school teachers. In 2001 he was voted one of Los Angeles Most Inspirational Teachers.

In addition to his work in education, Dr. Grady has worked on many civil rights campaigns. While in Hawaii, he was engaged in the fight for same-sex marriage equality for the Marriage Equality Project: He has continued this work in California. Dr. Grady also co-facilitates a support group for youth and young adults at the Long Beach Gay and Lesbian Center.

I can’t make it to this, so if any of you happen to go please let me know how it turns out.
