Shawn Nelson had the opportunity, as did Pat Bates and John Moorlach at the time they were elected as County Supervisors, to choose whether to opt in to the County Retirement system. Both Shawn Nelson and John Moorlach made the choice, despite their very vocal opposition to public employee pension plans, to take the very benefit they so strongly oppose.

I learned today that Supervisor Shawn Nelson decided to opt in to the County Pension Plan. I am still waiting to find out if he chose the Hybrid Plan, which he claimed on his first day was flawed, or if he took the plan that lets him retire at 55 years old.

With the Supreme Court’s ruling Thursday, CitiGroup, whose largest individual stockholder is a Saudi Arabian billionaire, can spend unlimited funds against any elected official who tries to regulate their activities. When they get in trouble again, legislators will simply give them another no-strings-attached taxpayer funded bailout, or else.
