A first hand account from a striking teacher: “It was a wonderful day. we had super turnout at Aliso Niguel High school, and wonderful student and parental support! Former students arrived to walk with us. We arrived bright and early to set up. It may be that the scabs thought they wouldn’t have to pass by us, but we started arriving before six AM. School was a disaster.”

Political and Mob Rule Trumps Policy and Procedure in Westminster

Last night, the Westminster City Council held a special meeting to resolve the conflict over the desire of multiple groups to host commemorative ceremonies marking the fall of Saigon 35 years ago in 1975. A group of 38 organizations, led by First District Supervisor Janet Nguyen was the first to pull a permit application to use Sid Goldstein Freedom Park on April 30 for their ceremony.

LiberalOC reaches the 5000 post mark

Today we have reached the 5000 post mark for our almost four-year old blog. April 26th marks our fourth birthday. For four years we have brought liberal perspective to the orange county blogosphere. We have challenged the right-wing republicans, and we have even taken issue with some democrats. With 732,000 visits and about 1.38 million page views to date, we look forward to many more years of Challenging the Right-Wing Noise Machine.

SAUSD Agrees to Federal and State Reforms

Well it too long enough, but it looks like the SAUSD board has taken their head out of the sand, for now. According to an OC Register article last week, the SAUSD has agreed to seek money from Obama’s stimulus, which includes grants of up to $2 Million in order to fix the six schools that have been deemed as failing by the state. Orange County Young Democrats Receive Project of the Year Award

“Using a peer to peer model, we knocked on the doors of more than 1,000 young voters in youth dense precincts around Cal State Fullerton, encouraging them to vote for Democrats all the way down the ticket.” said Nick Anas, Chair of Orange County Young Democrats. “We went door to door in the very places where young democrats live and hang out, places that are too often ignored by traditional campaigns.”
