It Actually May Not Be So Bad

November 4, 2010 3

Or it could be worse. But hear me out. The House. Incoming committee chairs are so polluted by donations from the companies/industries they affect/oversee/regulate that legislation originating in the House will likely be as besotted as the new chairs. John Boehner, by all accounts, built his reputation on pragmatic compromise.

Obama Weekly Address: Letting Wall Street Run Wild

October 23, 2010 1

In this week’s address, President Obama called out the Republican leadership in Congress for vowing to repeal Wall Street reform, which will protect Americans from unfair practices in mortgage transactions and foreclosures. The Wall Street reform law also set new rules so that taxpayers will never again be on the hook for a bailout if a big financial company goes under, helps rein in the secret deals and reckless gambling that nearly brought the financial system down, and set up the strongest consumer protections in history. The special interests fought hard against reform, spending millions to preserve a system that worked better for them than for middle class families. And now, the GOP leadership is calling for repealing this law and that would take the country backwards.

October 9, 2010 1

In this week’s address, President Obama said that, even as we work to rebuild our economy and jumpstart job creation, it is imperative that we offer our children a quality education in order for America to succeed in the 21st century. While Republicans in Congress are looking to cut education funding by 20 percent, the President remains committed to enacting reforms that provide every child with a world-class education while at the same time equipping them with the skills and training they need to compete in the new global economy. The President will continue fighting for an education system that helps to build a strong middle class and gives our children the best possible chance in life.

Obama Weekly Address: Solar Power & a Clean Energy Economy

October 2, 2010 1

In this week’s address, President Obama announced that – due to clean energy incentives launched by his administration – a company called BrightSource plans to break ground this month on a new, revolutionary type of solar power plant. This will put about 1,000 people to work building the facility. And once completed, it will power up to 140,000 homes, making it the largest such plant in the world. But for all the potential of clean energy projects like this one, the GOP recently pledged to scrap all incentives for these projects, even ones currently in progress.

Sanchez supported Small Business Jobs Act will bring “Jobs for Orange County”

September 29, 2010 1

“Small businesses are the engine of our economy, creating two-thirds of the new jobs over the last 15 years,” said Rep. Sanchez, who is a member of the bipartisan Joint Economic Committee. “These firms depend on access to capital to grow and thrive, but can’t get the financing they need due to tight lending standards. This bill will help deliver the funding small businesses need to expand and create jobs in Orange County.”
