While I will agree that spending $350,000 at a time of a major budget crisis and while we are laying off workers is ill advised and a bit out of sync with reality; I’m not sure that one out of four County Supervisors objecting really makes it a controversy.

After the Orange County Board of Supervisors failed to agendize proposed reforms requiring lobbyists to register and report on their activities to influence county government on matters of public interest, Senator Joe Dunn (ret.) spoke during Public Comments, noting he filed a notice to circulate a petition before the voters. Confident taxpayers want County government to operate with transparency and accountability, Dunn plans to lead an effort to gather the nearly 73,000 signatures required to place the reforms on the November 2010 ballot.

I’m sure that the fact that Williams personal attorney Phil Greer has represented all of the sitting members of the Board of Supervisors except for John Moorlach couldn’t possibly have played a role in the decisions of Supervisor’s Bates and Nguyen to oppose the solution recommended by CEO Tom Mauk (snark). Bates proposed looking into the matter further when the Board discusses the next County budget in May.
