Iglesias and Tinajero endorse Art Pedroza for SAUSD Trustee

October 1, 2010 29

It seems that Congressional candidate Cecilia Iglesias, and Santa Ana City Councilman Sal Tinajero have a few things in common. Both of them have endorsed Art Pedroza for Santa Ana Unified School District Trustee and both of them are parents of 7 to 8 year-old male children. Art Pedroza thinks that men having sex with young boys is funny. He finds the topic so humorous that he linked unsuspecting visitors to his Orange Juice Blog to the main page of the North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA).

Santa Ana Council Member’s ‘Pay to Play’ votes referred to DA for review

September 30, 2010 10

TheLiberalOC learned on Wednesday afternoon that Santa Ana City Attorney Joseph Fletcher has referred the matter of improper votes by Council members Sal Tinajero, Michele Martinez, and Claudia Alvarez to the Orange County District Attorney for review. The votes in question appear to violate Santa Ana Municipal Code section 2-107.

Santa Ana Council Video: We’re not the City of Bell

September 16, 2010 12

This is a heavily edited video of Santa Ana City Council member comments made at their September 7th meeting. It was this meeting where members Martinez and Tinajero voted improperly on a resolution to lower, and suspend for a year, soccer permit fees paid by adult leagues. Martinez and Tinajero each accepted $500 from a for-profit league that benefits from that reduction creating a conflict of interest making them unable to vote on the matter.

Sal Tinajero and his fear of White challengers or any other Latino challenger

September 15, 2010 20

Councilman Tinajero approached OC Weekly investigative reporter R. Scott Moxley with his story of a conspiracy to split the Latino vote in his race. Like any great investigative reporter, Moxley took up the challenge and reported Tuesday evening on what he had found. One key thing that I noticed from Moxley’s story is that he allowed Tinajero to present his case, and the witnesses and documentation to support his case. What was missing from the piece was a clear indication of how any laws were allegedly broken. Moxley was careful to not draw any conclusions on his own and let the reader decide.

Video of Soccer Fee’s vote doesn’t back up press statements from Tinajero and Martinez

September 14, 2010 5

What I had not realized until I reviewed the video of the September 7th meeting is that not only did the Council reduce the fees, they suspended them for one year. While the revised motion was driven by Councilman Sarmiento, he stated in the beginning of his commments on the matter that he was aware that other Councilmembers had been contacted about the fees. It is clear from the video that staff had made clear, and the Council was fully aware, of what they were voting on and what leagues were impacted. Below is the video, watch it yourself and see what you think.

Santa Ana Council Members Martinez and Tinajero run ‘Pay to Play’ racket in Santa Ana

September 13, 2010 24

This is probably one of the most egregious examples of “pay to play” revealed since former Ward 3 Councilmember Ted Moreno was convicted ten years ago on September 5, 2000 for accepting $31,000 in illegal campaign contributions. While the reduction in fees passed on a 7-0 vote, these two council members should have recused themselves from voting on this matter. Who knows what influence these two members exercised over the review of the fees and the recommendation for their reduction.

Councilman blows a fuse over blog comment and threatens to F&$K me up

September 7, 2010 25

It has been a while since a candidate for Orange County elected office threatened a LiberalOC blogger, four years to be exact. Then it was Tan Nguyen, who was challenging Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez in 2006. Nguyen believed that our founder Mike Lawson had been defacing his campaign signs and told Mike that he has a lot of supporters that are “passionate” and he would “hate to see anyone get hurt.”This weekend however, this experience was kicked up a notch by Santa Ana Councilman Sal Tinajero.
