In his 2013 State of the Union address President Obama’s called on Congress to raise the minimum wage. Subsequently Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Representative George Miller (D-CA) introduced the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2013. It would raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10 per hour.

Republicans have been coming up with excuses for months on why they didn’t win the 2012 Presidential election, and almost all of them have come to the same conclusion: they weren’t as good as Democrats at reaching out to voters.

It’s a classic argument offered by Libertarian economists; “an increase in the minimum wage will kill jobs.” The problem with the argument is that the facts show this isn’t the case. A 2011 study found that minimum wages don’t hurt the employment prospects of low-wage workers.
