For the second round of draconian layoffs, the Sheriff notified OCEA on January 4th that they plan to layoff an additional 57 non-sworn personnel. These are the people who support our deputies, and in fact, make the entire department function.

The California Teacher’s Association is now opposing the Race To The Top bills currently in the Assembly. The CTA-opposed SBX5 4 (Romero) has been split into two bills, SBX5 1 and SBX5 4. The amended version of SBX5 4 contains two of the most objectionable ideas developed in this special session on education: open enrollment and parent trigger.
After meeting with Governor Schwarzenegger today, Costa Mesa Mayor Allan Mansoor and Councilwoman Katrina Foley did not seem too optimistic about the chances of the Governor stopping the sale of the Orange County Fairgrounds.
