Arizona Passes Anti-Immigrant Law, Now What!

This is the Arizona state legislature for you. The Republican controlled legislature has approved of making Latinos second class citizens, claims President Obama is not a US Citizen (which I believe should qualify as treason), has said it is ok for husbands to rape their wives and that Martin Luther King Jr. is NOT a national hero. They are just one step away from putting Latinos into concentration camps, I better stop now, that just might give them the idea.

On Friday April 23rd Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed the state’s immigration bill into law. It is considered to be among the toughest legislation in the nation. Arizona’s law orders immigrants to carry their alien registration documents at all times and requires police to question people if there’s reason to suspect they’re in the United States illegally.

Obama Weekly Address: Good News for the Auto Industry

As the auto industry and financial markets begin to stabilize, the President says the government’s emergency interventions are now winding down. He pledges that real reform, particularly on Wall Street, must now begin. General Motors announced that it has repaid its loan to taxpayers with interest five years ahead of schedule, and Chrysler Financial has already fully repaid with interest its loan as well.

Another Report from the Frontlines at CUSD’s Teacher Strike

Attendance on the line was down in some ways, and up in others. Some teachers had their layoff hearings today and couldn’t be there, but on the bright side, several teachers who worked yesterday came out and struck with us today – awesome! Think about that – teachers who are under risk of being laid off are striking. This should indicate just how serious this whole strike is to the future of our profession.
