In another demonstration of their flair for distraction from their own mistakes, the Santa Ana City Council is again using the power to remove members of city commissions as a diversion. This time they needed a way do distract from their collective failure to stop Mayor Pro Tem Claudia Alvarez from violating the right of Albert Castillo to address his grievances to his elected officials. Shawn Nelson had the opportunity, as did Pat Bates and John Moorlach at the time they were elected as County Supervisors, to choose whether to opt in to the County Retirement system. Both Shawn Nelson and John Moorlach made the choice, despite their very vocal opposition to public employee pension plans, to take the very benefit they so strongly oppose.

A complaint filed by TheLiberalOC publisher Chris Prevatt with the OC District Attorney over the Brown Act violation by Santa Ana Councilwoman Alvarez has bee turned over to the Attorney General for investigation.
This morning, U.S. District Court Judge Vaughn R. Walker issued another ruling in related to his landmark decision that declared Proposition 8 (California’s Constitutional Amendment banning same-gender marriages) unconstitutional. Last Friday, both sides in the case submitted arguments to Judge Walker about whether he should continue to retain the stay on his order until any pending appeal is decided, or lift the stay he placed shortly after issuing his decision last week.
