As I continue to travel around South County on my listening tour, I have been hungry for news on the election front. As it stands today, unless one looked at the actual signs, you wonder if an election actually existed. There is news, though: Giuliani is coming to OC to campaign for Van Tran and Carly Fiorina. But, there is also a bigger start coming to town too: Bill Clinton!!!
On Saturday we saw a curious dance between Assemblyman Van Tran and First District Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen orchestrated by Orange County GOP leader Scott Baugh. In what appeared to be a hastily called press conference by Tran, Nguyen announced that she was supporting the endorsement by GOP leaders of Assemblyman Van Tran for the Congressional seat currently held by Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez. Even the press statement fired off after the photo-op, failed to include a single quote from Supervisor Nguyen.
As part of ECCOPAC’s 27th Annual HERO Awards Dinner, ECCOPAC released it’s Endorsement Slate for the 2010 California General Election. Working with community members and activists, ECCOPAC continues a long tradition of endorsing progressive issues and candidates that encourage and support the advancement of LGBTQ Civil Rights.
A recent voter survey has found that the race between Democrat Phu Nguyen and Republican Allan Mansoor to succeed Republican Van Tran in California’s 68th Assembly district is competitive. In the initial question, Nguyen draws 35% to 39% for Mansoor, with the remaining quarter (26%) undecided.
In this week’s address, President Obama said that, even as we work to rebuild our economy and jumpstart job creation, it is imperative that we offer our children a quality education in order for America to succeed in the 21st century. While Republicans in Congress are looking to cut education funding by 20 percent, the President remains committed to enacting reforms that provide every child with a world-class education while at the same time equipping them with the skills and training they need to compete in the new global economy. The President will continue fighting for an education system that helps to build a strong middle class and gives our children the best possible chance in life.

Campaign finance statements came out yesterday for the Santa Ana city candidates, in which all of them turned it in except for Sal Tinajero, as my co-blogger pointed out. The one I was curious to check out was the Mayoral statements, primarily for Alfredo Amezcua and Miguel Pulido. You can review Pulido’s statement HERE and Amezcua’s statement HERE.
