The Force is with us! Chris Norby Concedes

Last night, after the Orange County Registrar of Voters released the latest ballot count, Orange County Assemblyman Chris Norby conceded defeat. Fullerton Mayor Sharon Quirk-Silva has expanded her lead over Assemblyman Norby in the 65th Assembly district contest to 3,348 votes. Jim Sanders of the Sacramento Bee posted the news on the Capitol Alert blog at 6:13 pm.

It’s official: Democrats now have their Assembly supermajority.

Incumbent Republican Assemblyman Chris Norby conceded late today that he had been beaten by Democratic challenger Sharon Quirk-Silva in a newly drawn Orange County district.

“I wish my successor well,” Norby said in a phone call from Honduras, where his family was spending time with his wife’s ailing mother.

“I don’t see any way of this turning out the way I’d like,” Norby said of his prospects of overcoming Quirk-Silva in absentee or provisional ballots that remain uncounted. The two candidates were nearly 3,000 votes apart Wednesday. Read more here

It should be noted that as of 7:23 am, the Orange County Register has not chosen to tell its readers that a Republican had lost to a Democrat in Orange County. What’s up with that?

  1. They also chose to state that the apparent only effect of a Dem supermajority was their ability to raise taxes. Not a word about what else it means.
